I guess I don't feel so bad for only getting 12.5 to 14mpg
I just came back from a 500 mile round trip using my new Scan Gauge and it is so cool! Instant and average MPG that really shows how just a little lighter on the pedal can improve mileage. Intake air temp was another cool feature to see how it really does not cool off much at even 100MPH - with a metal intake tube and outside temp at 70, intake air stayer around 85-90. I can offer these for $119 delivered - plugs into ODBII port.
Tone,
more info on the scanner please. I am interested. How is it installed and what does it look like?
Tone, how do I order one since it's not listed on your site? I have a Davis carchip installed on the port right now but a visible readout would be nice and I'll just switch the carchip to the Vette.
so one thing seems apparent here, the VX gets varying degrees of lousy gas milage, but i guess we allready knew that :)
Anyone have any thoughts on how to improve gas milage?
Here's another thought. Is it taking longer for your VX to warm up- or not at all? I noticed my VX heats up fast, my guess is that like some cars- it consumes more gas to heat the engine faster.
Now if you have a thermostat that is faulty or stuck open, it will take longer for the VX to heat up and the computer will try to compensate by adding more fuel till it warms up. So maybe check the thermostat- if you rule out the tires.
I doubt the therrmostat is faulty. They are pretty stout...
Yep, thermostat is OK, i also have a toasty heated garage at home and heated parking at work too (i know, i'm soo lucky!) so it rarely has to start from being very cold, and it really gets cold here in MN!
I might put the stock air filter back on for a week, at least thats one mod i can go backwards on to see if it had an affect.
Just on the news last night gas is going to be over $2 a gal for a while.
I really shouldnt complain, its about $6 a gal in the UK!!
My gas mileage goes down at least 50-100 miles per tank in the winter. I think between air temp and fuel changing for cold starts it kills my mileage... But it goes back up in the summer :)
