After much reading and advice, I think I am going to follow the instructions outlined in the "Replacing the timing belt thread". If I do not find the issue, bad tensioner or something like that, I'll pull the valve cove and see what is going on under there. I figure no telling when the timing set has been changed so plan on replacing it all. Shoot high and if I find simple stuff hooray! But after all that poking around and still don't find anything then I'll just spring for a motor. But let's hope for a cheaper solution! :smilegray

Congrats and good luck! I hope some TLC and elbow grease will do the trick. Fingers crossed!

you paid $1500- I paid $15,000- your vx probably is worth 4 times what you paid so you'll be in good shape even if you need a new engine.

For real! I thought I got a steal at $4K

Yea I did get a good deal, even driving to Iowa and back. That is why it won't hurt my feelings any to put a good motor in it should it come to that. It will just take longer to save up the cash to buy a good motor. It is just killing to see it in the driveway and not be able to take it for a drive. :_steering
