Are you looking for longer distance "driving" CB coverage...
...or Trail coverage.
My hand held $75 Cobra Road Trip never once failed to connect on the trail...
...and gave acceptable coverage driving.
It can run ciggy lighter OR batts...it can be taken from car to car...or back pack...or m/bike...OR!!

I'm enjoying the evolution of this thread. I started thinking having one full time would be fun, I get more thumbs up :thumbup: from Truck Drivers than anyone else.
Then I could say hey...
I'm definitely more interested in performance than looks, but having controls on the handset makes sense. Especially with how ugly they all are...
I'll continue to watch this thread build.
Jo, I'm thinking of ordering the one you bought regardless... (backup/loaner) But I still think I want something (semi)Permanent in the VX. :D
i have the cobra 75wxst and it worked well for me.. but with all the electrical in my car my SWR was through the roof so eventually it did permanent damage to the unit.. one of these days ill get around to sending it in for warranty service
it is pretty sweet driving and being able to talk to the truckers though.. if nothing else its nice to get the weather stations and to find out why you are sitting in traffic
Ditto on the radio. I paid $65 for the radio and $24 for the antenna at the local truckstop (PILOT). I also run the FireStik antenna and have great luck with both. Played around with talking to my Dad (he had a handheld cb) and we talked up to 15 miles away before I lost him...he still heard me though!(he called me on my cell to tell me I was still reaching him.)Quote:

Bought the Cobra 29LTD CLASSIC, mostly because it's so cool looking (j/k) it was on sale at Pilot for $69, I bought the Firestik Antenna to go with.
Should be able to install Friday :D

Ha... what was I thinking... can't go under the seat... even if it could I could get to the controls this thing is ginormous...
I think I'll end up getting a 75 with handheld controls...
I'll just temp mount this one until I figure something out...
On another note... anyone know where I can get one of these mounts?? This is a great antenna install.

It looks like an antennae mount for a Kenworth T2000... be warned. it looks good but the ground sucks.. those trucks cant usually get out over 200 yards.
ps.. cant believe ya did a firestick.. francis may look cheap.. but have twice the distance (sending and recieving) then a FS

I have the same mount and I bought it at the truckstop (Pilot) along with the radio and antenna. I believe it is labeled as a "body side mount". I had no problems grounding it when mounting. In the second image you can see a little of the cb mount from the opposite side.Quote:

I had one on my old 99 Trooper, worked great, it sticks out the slot between the hood and fender, no visible holes in yer pretty VX...:)
