How can you tell if your engines been rebuilt?

Since I'm the 5th owner of my VX with 127K how would I determine if this motor has been rebuilt? Besides the obvious of a compression check, is there any tell tale signs?
My motor burns VERY little oil and seems to have been taken care of. The engine bay and motor is really clean for a 13 year old vehicle.
I'd like to contact previous owners to find out more information but not sure if that's possible.

BTW - I found Lisa by using the advanced search function ... there's a entry box for the last 4 digits of the VIN.

Thanks! I'm still figuring things out on the search function. I sent Lisa an email and she replied and was REAL happy I wrote. I'll send her pictures as I transform it to the next level. Just adding springs, tires, cranking the front end up a bit and adding the Supercharger I just bought from Jay Dunford.
