I should send him an updated picture. My cladding looks terrible. I have since repaired my cladding fade with Showroom New.
I wonder if my VX & Sue's VX are still up too. I'll hafta check.

Well actually our model is called the "Sparebumper" and the one with the trailer ball is called the "Superbumper".
I know Jeff's website is definitely overly busy and crowded, makes it look cheesy, but the bumper is great.
In just 2 years I've been hit twice now with it on…once they veered left and missed it completely and took off the left rear quarter area (other truck, not my VX) :mado:, and once just a light tap, cracked the black powdercoat a tiny bit….so I'm a big fan!
But some day I'm gonna get outta the truck and see a nice horizontal hole in somebody's grill/radiator :bgwo:
oh and BTW…he'll negotiate on price a bit, so call him. Mention how many VXs have it now blah blah blah...
When I have it on the VX, I'll never get hit. The second I take it off, some goober will crunch my rear cladding. So I just consider it superstitious insurance ... a wise investment. Maybe if I add some 'Ldub' spikes, it'll work even mo betta.Quote:

its a gorino....but did save the drivers side ..got a small scratch on the gorino.. it could have been worse. super should make a wider one
I was thinking about that too…I wish they did too. But I bet they can't get the same protection at the outer extremes of the bumper if they made it wider since the protection only really comes from the vertical part of stinger. Don't think they can get the energy from the outer edges channeled into the center good enough.Quote:

Going wider on the SuperBumper is probably a no-go because the further away from center the impact is, then the more torque applied to the receiver bar (what KAT refers to as the 'stinger'). Basically the stinger would bend rather than slide into the receiver.
Below is a pic that Jeff used to have on his website showing the result of a solid hit on the bumper. IIRC pic was submitted by a customer after an accident (not me though:)).
The concern, if I recall correctly, is that anything in the hitch that gets hit will transfer all of the energy of the accident directly to the frame of the vehicle making it much worse than a normal rear end collision. With nothing in the hitch, the truck and bumper compress as intended by the manufacturer to help prevent injury to the passengers, not the vehicle.
The gorino sounds like it does great for protecting your vehicle, but I would imagine a hard rear end collision would transfer much more energy to the passengers than without.
Perhaps the superbumper guy can modify his design a bit to match what others like.
I like the look of my sparebumper, but I know some might not. I think it looks like "Thor's Hammer". Adds to the look of my truck.

In that customer pic, notice the 2nd large rubber donut isn't on….hopefully it was on when the accident occured, cuz it's an important part of the system.
The importance of the second donut is strictly dependent upon the receiver, not the SpareBumper (SB). Maybe that owner had a really funky receiver that had a lot of space between the outter edge & the hitch pin. When I upgraded my receiver to the new design, I had to dig out those spare mini-donuts that Jeff supplied with the SB. Luckly I hung on to them because the upgraded hitch moved the hitch pin outward about 3/8 inch ... can't remember who the PITA was that made me make that change???:)Quote:
