So you were happy with the results?
My experience with the 3M pads on a drill were pretty scary, too. Frightening amounts of plastic dust came off the lenses, but they looked great after the final step was complete.
No special attention or coatings of any kind over the last two years (except for polish/wax as I'm working on dressing up the paint) and my lenses haven't changed at all and still look great.
They now sell everything in a kit.
Meguires extreme Headlight Kit I think. I wet sanded with the 3m.
Used it. Not perfect but better. Perfect is new. =)
Hey Jo, not sure if you read my thread on headlight polishing but I too did it that way, (think I finished with 2000 grit) and it turned out fine. One thing I did since in my arm chair engineering mind, I think you lose surface tension (can't think how else to put it) by sanding. I went to a shop that has done tint and pin strip work on 4 of my cars and had him cover my lights in lexan to protect them. That was the summer of 06. I haven't seen any deterioration what so ever. Haven't done anything since other then washings. Just something to consider.:yesy:
Results were good Rick.
I've done it this way before, about 5 years ago...so thats pretty good.
.
Rowhard..I agree that 2000 ( even 3000) to finish is a good way to go..
..couldnt get any, so used the "used" 1500 lightly as a last sanding.

I think the kit is overkill...and expensive.
Sponge buffer/one sheet of 1500 and half a bottle of PastX did two VX's.
I also tend to put my dark h/light covers on during summer..so that helps.
