What's wrong with the tranny? There are remans for sale on eBay for $900+/-.

That's terrible Eb, sorry to hear it. Is $2K to fix yours, to install a reman, or to install a new one? Can't imagine a new tranny would be that cheap...

I will post what the transmission mechanic finds tommorrow. He is a local transmission mechanic with a good reputation. He is going to tear it apart and do a rebuild for me. I am aware of the 100 or more used transmissions on parts finders and the rebuilt ones available but I prefer to have him do it and I will know what I got.
The symptoms were the trans popping into a neutral state out of 3rd gear esp when it was not yet warm ie first 3 miles. then it would warm out of the prob. this started 3 weeks ago and was going to do the usual easy stuff like change the fluid and filter but it worsened then 3rd just completely died on the way to a local place to 4 wheel a bit. I did top the fluid off 2 weeks ago and that did not fix it. :_brickwal
