The motor is being rebuilt in my VX right now. The mechanic noticed many VX postings for oil leaks. As he is doing the rebuild, what can he do to eliminate future leaks?

The motor is being rebuilt in my VX right now. The mechanic noticed many VX postings for oil leaks. As he is doing the rebuild, what can he do to eliminate future leaks?
Drop in a different engine? ;)
Other more technical voices will hopefully drop in, but from everything I've read there's really no rhyme or reason as to why some of the engines burn oil but others don't. I've heard that 99's burn worse than later years, but have never heard what Isuzu changed (if anything) to correct it. If they did change anything, it certainly doesn't appear to have made the issue go away across the board.
