The stock speakers have a foam surround that goes bad and rots away. When that happens, the cone has no support and the voicecoil shorts out against the magnet and they sound like crap. Mine were like that when I bought my VX.
I agree to the above, and add my 2 cents.
Low power driven loud will blow speakers much easier than a higher powered amplifier. Its distortion that really kills speakers.
When signal clips you can get pure DC as output. That can fry voice coils.

yea your wattage is low....thats amazing that they blow that easily to me because mine were in great shape and they sound amazing..granted they are highly amplified
