Okay, before I pull the stock airbox and install the K&N cone filter to feed the voracious air appetite of the S/C, I want to know how many people have gotten the for high intake air temperature (fault code P0113 I think) after going to an OPEN high-flow K&N-style cone filter (one which does not draw air from the grill or fender). So please select from the following choices if you have installed a high-flow air open cone-type filter. Thanks!!
Well, glad to see I'm not the only one with this fault code. I have the MorganTec cold air induction system. Maybe together we can come up with a fix. I did try this weekend someone's suggestion about cleaning the MAP sensor in case it had some filter oil one it. Will have to wait and see if it is a fix or not.

Partial airbox made from $6 garbage can.
This helps to not suck hot radiator air into the filter. Cold air= power. The difference on a blown VX is very noticable on hot days.

OK. Did ya ever wonder about the possibility of turning on the AC and plumbing the cold air into the ENGINE INTAKE!? Heh.. some laws of thermodynamics say that we'll waste energy, but some of it would end up in the mix and make for some very tourquey bottom end I should think. Might be fun to try... OR there's always water injection.
I rermember this guy that brought his 93 turbo charged Chevy Cyclone PU out to the drags. He was icing down (with bags of ice) his intercooler between runs and getting faster each time! He won his class as I recall.

I slapped on the Calmini a couple of days ago and only removed the top of the filter box and the filter. It does not look very pretty, but I haven't had any problems with it either. I will fab up something a little more permanent in the next couple of weekends that will suck at least a little air out of the wheel well.

I had found other posts alluding to the removal of the elbow but I didn't realize that's what they were talking about. I've decided to fab up some sort of straight intake tube to connect the throttle body & MAF (I'm still using a bendy tube) which will also allow me to extend the MAF & cone filter to that front corner of the engine bay. I'll pull the air box and the elbow when I do that, and that should lower my intake air temp even more.
I also came across an old thread regarding "missing instructions" in the S/C kit for cutting a second hole in the bottom of the air box and attaching a short plastic tube to draw air in from behind the headlight. Seems pretty critical info to me, but these instructions only found their way to a couple of VXers - no one else knew anything about this!
I have had no oil-on-the-MAF or high intake air temp problems since installing the cone intake, and I'm in the peak of summer heat right now, so that bodes well. The VX feels pretty quick (the Calmini filter definitely helps getting air into the S/C at high revs). I can't wait to drive it with air temps in the 60's!!!
Now if I can just find a cat-back performance exhaust...
