Trans fluid change - caution

I had the trans flushed about 15k miles ago (currently at 103k) and assumed everything was OK. Occasionally it would stay in 2nd gear for what seemed to be a longer than normal time. Today I stopped procrastinating and crawled underneath to check it. 1.75 quarts LOW. No leaks were visible.

I think what happened was that they flushed and filled the trans with the VX turned off. Should probably be done while running (in Park) like the manual says when adding fluid. Just something to be aware of for those contemplating a trans flush. My $.02.

NEVER work under a running vehicle is a good rule for doing your own maintenance at home. Once you fill the tranny get in and start the vehicle then start cycling through the gears while holding a firm brake pedal. Stay in each selector position for about thirty seconds going in each direction on the selector. Shut down the vehicle and then check your level, add as needed then repeat.

The shop you had the flush done at should have known that you ALWAYS cycle the tranny before final level check. The most basic of mechanics knows this about auto trannys.

sorry maybe for stupid question but where i can find that level so check how much oil i have in my tranny? would be nice if someone could post a pic for more details.

use the plug labeled as tranny fill, when you remove that a very little bit of fluid should come out and you know its full, if nothing at all comes out you are running low
