View Full Version : Performance Exhaust Question

ok, first-off, I'm probably one of the less-techy guys here so please forgive me if I generalize, but here goes
What I'm looking for is any suggestions for aftermarket exhaust systems preferably from the exhaust manifold aft. Most of the threads I've seen deal only with the muffler or exhaust tip area. My VX came from up north and while it was a one owner and very well maintained, there is some rust starting to set in on the exhaust pipes. I would like to help the engine breathe a little easier, maybe help my gas mileage 1-2 mpg, and figured if I will need to replace this system somewhat soon I might as well get some performance improvement out of it. Any suggestions?

Concerning full exhausts, I think there were some old, OLD threads consisting of some possible headers, and if I recall correctly, they were SUPER pricey. And other than the PV catback, I dont recall much of anything that deals with full exhausts. I dont think that the PV is even available anymore. Maybe someone here can clarify that?

Most exhausts done here are pretty custom and quite limited. Been looking at a dual exhaust for mine for a few years here now, but I have been procrastinating on it.

Come to think of it, I am pretty lame on the subject of VX exhausts now, heh. Heck.... where do we stand on them with the VX.... anyone?

i just put a powervault system on mine and i love it...it sounds great and it wasnt all that pricey...i just went to Midas and had them weld it on right after the cat and build a new pipe from there back...here are prices (if i remember correctly)
$175 for muffler with shipping
$60 for midas to make a new pipe
$15 at autozone for a new tip

sounds great, got some horsepower out of it, and im pretty sure that i gained some gas mileage

Worm is right- the PV and PV2 are out of production.
I'll be removing my PV2 after the holidays and, if it survives the surgery, I'll offer it out to a wanting soul.
I'll miss the HP but not the growl (old age is creeping up on me).

Thanks for the input, wormgod, your post is pretty funny,
anyway, I'll touch base with Midas, didn't think about going with them, I've had plenty of European sedans/coupes in the past and I'm used to the big-name people (Borla, Scorpion, etc etc),
I checked their websites but pretty much nada for VX's, oh well, maybe I'll branch out and try some of these local speed shops as well, wouldn't hurt, exhaust systems are pretty simple to me :)

Yes Morgan-tec fixed me up with an all Stainless Muffler. I needed it be alittle on the quite side so he added a couple extra baffles. Along with resonator tips it sounds great, over a year and still rumbling along.
