Assuming everything is proportioned to scale there, I believe that's a butane cigar lighter. ;)

There's a link up there, check it out. Especially the part where he's toying with the idea of putting two turbines on his wife's scooter so it'll go over 40 MPH. ;)

I dunno about you, but I would love to hang out with this guy one night at a pub just to chat over a few drinks. Something tells me he is the equivelent to a modern day hippie/genius/comedian/thrillseeker, heh. Count me in.

i got an email with that in it a while ago and I searched and searched and searched for some major PhotoShop flaws and found any flaws hard to spot. The biggest thing that kep me from thinking it legit was in the pic you posted first. You can still see the brake light reflection in the pavement and it seemed that if brakelights were 5 feet from a jet burn that the light from the jet would somewhat overpower them. But i read on and convinced myself it was for real. Anyone else pick up on anything? I can't bring myself to think it is really out there, but for the love of god...I WANT TO!

Slap one of those puppies on a body more suited for it *cough* vx...oh yeah. Right out the center of the spare tire molding...that'd be hot

Surplus turbines and turbojets are plentiful and relatively inexpensive. I've been looking at them quite a bit lately for a homebuilt project I've been doodling with (full scale Fieseler Fi-103, German WWII) and it's very entertaining to see what others are doing with them. There's also a big community building and improving pulse-jets as well, which is extremely entertaining if you know anything about pulse-jets!

Here's a link to a fellow's site that has been doing some fun pulse-jet tinkering: http://www.aardvark.co.nz/pjet/

And a couple pics of his Lockwood-Hiller valveless powered dragster:
