I just noticed the carbon fiber insert on my hood looks a little faded.
Can I paint it? What kind of paint and will it last or should I do something else to the insert to make it look new again?

I just bought a CF insert from user 'newthings'. He said the orginal clear coat was fading as yours. He took it to a autobody shop and had it prepped and resprayed. I would think if you know anyone in the trade, if you did the prep, they might take it into the spray booth when they are clearcoating a job and lay a few coats on it for you for not much money. The spraying is the easy part.

Don't forget the 600 grit wet sanding and rubbing compound by hand or machine to finish.

Hello newthings. You just won't believe how good that insert I bought from you with the yellow casting looks on my Dragon Green. When we get a sunny day here, will PM some photo's to you. Actually, when color sanding, Sand with 1200 wet in one direction then 1500 wet at 90 degree till the 1200 sanding lines are gone. Can then do 2000 wet at 90 degrees till the 1500 is gone, then machine buff to a high gloss, decreasing the grit till there is no grit.

600!!! Man you like to buff. We start color sanding at 12 or 1500 D.A. at 3000 then put the wool to it (finished with foam)
