What are the most important mods to keep your vehicross running like new? I am just getting my vehicross back from an relative who had it for a while and it has 96000 miles on it. I want to tune it so that it can run at least another 50 K. What is most important to start with?

Oil, oil, oil, pads, belts, and hoses. Fix the little things too. The more you let things go, the less you love it, the shorter its' life.

Will replacing the shocks completely quite the switching noise?

The stock shocks are very high quality, I would not replace them unless you oscillate after bumps.
Switching noise? need more info.
