I know that several of you have had to purchase your VX's outside of the area you live in. I am interested in the companies you used to transport your VX to you. Were they fast, kind to the car, and how expensive? We are considering purchasing a vehicle in Florida. Since we live in California we are weighing out flying there and driving it back, or shipping it.

Thanks in advance,

Deby

I've shipped 5 vehicles, all with different companies. Just go to http://www.movecars.com/ and submit a rate request to every company. Took me about 20 minutes and rates varied by as much as 100% !

When I bought my VX I drove it back I have to say there is nothing like a road trip! The trip was from Missouri to Alaska It turned out to be cheaper driving for me.

I agree about the driving it back. The last car we purchased was an Ohio car. My son and I flew to Ohio and drove it back to California. I loved the drive, and the company was great. One of the reasons I'm looking for shipping companies was to compare prices vs driving it back. There's a real good chance that I again will be driving it back to California. I went online at the company listed above to get quotes. Right now the lowest rate quoted is $795.00. Airfare, gas, 2 nights hotel stay (one with family), food and a day off work would be right around that. The options are if I want it next week or next month. HMMMMMMM The other option is to wait and try to find a comparable vehicle here.

Still looking in California,
Deby

This discussion has come up a lot on the Ferrari Chat site.

If you have that option, driving it back isn't bad. BUT - when buying a vehicle, you are unfamiliar with it and it's potential problems. I know I'd hate to find out that the fuel pump is on the fritz 800 miles from home. I also didn't have 2-3 days to kill, plus the cost of a flight (which could be $200-400 right there!) plus the cost of gas ($150 in my case) plus putting 1,500 miles on my truck. So... for $700 I had my truck in 5 days. For $350 and having to fly out there and drive for 3 days I could have done it myself. In my case, much more convenient to have it transported!

When I bought my boat last summer from Texas, we bit the bullet and made the drive. Drove nonstop from Denver to Galveston, picked up the boat, and drove straight back. My butt still hurts and I have nightmares from all of the hallucinations from the long drive and lack of sleep :D
