Worst Movie.

Venom (1982) - International terrorists attempt to kidnap a wealthy couples child. Their plan comes unstuck when the boy's pet snake, a deadly Black Mamba, escapes, and the terrorists and several hostages are trapped in the boy's London home. A tense evening is had by all as the snake creeps around the house picking off the various characters one by one. Then....at the end of the movie..... it's shown the snake is pregnant!

Hmmmmmmmmm… What’s the worst movie I’ve ever seen?

Oh, there’s no doubt about it - that would be ‘Night of the Zombies’ (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0082815/).



There were about 40-or-so people in the theater when the movie started … a mere 5-minutes later, there were only 8 of us left.

Bear in mind, this was a zombie movie – it said so right there in the title – so it’s reasonable to assume that none of those people walked out because of the gore… No, I'd have to say it was the ‘stellar' performances from the cast, and/or the ‘Oscar-worthy’ script. --- Both were preposterously laughable – literally (even for a zombie movie!)

My best friend and I were among those few who stayed – it must have been some sort of train wreck effect, because we just couldn’t look away. --- Less than 20-minutes into it, 2 more people made a hasty retreat for the exit. --- The remaining 6 of us managed to make it through to the end by ruthlessly heckling the entire movie; picking it apart like vultures over a fresh carcass. --- When the credits rolled, all 6 of us applauded – certainly not for the movie itself; but rather for the fact that our agony was finally over.

Having oral surgery performed with no anesthetic would have been easier to sit through.

My favorite "added" MST3K line was in "I was a teenage werewolf " w/ Micheal Landon...when the spike hits my vein nothi'n seems quite the same BONANZA!

Try these:

Deathrace 2000 with David Carradine as "Frankenstein" - you basically get points for killing people on the road with your car as you race to the finish.
Dead Alive - One of the best period gorey zombie films ever made (another Peter Jackson film) - "I kick *** for the Lord!"
Sean of the Dead - recent Brit parody of the zombie film - actually quite good.
Bubba Ho Tep - Elvis was replaced by an impersonator (who dies - everyone thinks it's the Real Elvis but it's not) and ends up in a retirement home, that's being terrorized by a soul sucking egyptian pharoh. Some great dialog in this one.
Mad Max and the Road Warrior - the AU cuts of each film if you can find them.
Nightmare Before Christmas - Tim Burton at his best.
Blue Velvet and Dune - David Lynch's bastardized cousin films. I recently bought the extended version of Dune - fairly boring stuff compared to the theatrical cut but interesting in its content.
Rushmore - if you haven't seen this I think it's worth a rental.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - an incredibly beautiful film - I still thrill in viewing (and I've probably watched it a dozen times).
O Brother Where Art Thou? - another must view.
Actually, pretty much anything by the Cohen or Farrelly brothers are worth a look-see.

I recently found copies of some very obscure films by Alejandro Jodorowsky:

El Topo (the mole) - about the oddest spaghetti western ever filmed
Holy Mountain - the scene recreating Cortez invasion of the Aztecs is brilliant
Santa Gangre - transplanted limbs and possession, what more can you ask for

The only copy I've ever seen of Holy Mountain was a VHS copy from the Playboy channel - I've heard it was only aired once. Santa Sangre was filmed in the 90's but it still has the surreal acting, sets and music of the first two. The director was really unusual, he was hired to do the first, abandoned Dune movie in the 70's:

OK most recently re watched movies would have to be.
Serenity,good tale told well with good fx and characters, tight fight scenes.
Azumi, the sword fighting Samuri kids.
Underworld, just foxy stylish well told vampire tale.
The Cell, The best art direction for this gendre,good story, Oh yes Jaylo!
The Fifth Element, sound track and excellent FX even if it is ripped from a whole pile of other movies.
The Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy, great paced movies.
Brotherhood of the Wolf, French production, stylish great slo-mo fight sequences, bad special FX with the beast, But you can forgive it for that.
Worst movie, any remake of an old classic where Hollywood couldn't be bothered writing new material. WHy ruin a good thing with a cheapo plastic version.

Hostel ... watch this movie and be scarred for life. Now, don't get me wrong... I love horror movies! However... this movie was not scary, only disturbing. I have heard of snuff films before. Never had any desire to see one. This movie was as close as I ever want to get. I know there are some of you out there that are going to watch it to see how Mr. Nocturnal's :evil: delicate sensibilities could possibly be offended... they made a Hostel2 after all. Trust me... do not.

Other than that... I love all the obscure horror, comedy, action films listed. I haven't thought of some of these flicks in a long time... gotta go on a DVD shopping spree!

I've heard mixed things about Hostel. I'll have to check it out. For me, my top most disturbing are:

Southern Comfort
The Hills Have Eyes (original, although I heard the re-make is pretty good)
and last but not least, Deliverance

I've been trying to get my wife to watch all three with me back to back, but she isn't really into the disturbing, violation style movies like I am.

This thread is too much for me. I could go on and on. Netflix is by far the best thing to happen to a movie junkie like me. I watch 6-8 movies a week. If they do this on demand thing, I'm in trouble...

I see someone mentioned Strange Brew, That was a good one.
I think my favorite is the original Gone in 60 Seconds (It was filmed on a low budget and without the permits and stuff).
I also liked the first Spielburg movie where the truck was trying to run the guy off the road... Can't think of the name? .... DUEL?

I picked up a used DVD of it recently for $4 in perfect condition and it was one of the most pleasant surprises ever. Fun, action packed, completely over the top, campy humour, and interesting characters. Be prepared for gore, gore, and more gore. Somewhere in post edit, this film did something right and made it completely enjoyable (if not gross).

OK, don't take offense but, I think Silent Running is one of the WORST sci-fi films ever! This movie, is not only painfully drawn out, but the sound track makes it excruciating. I found myself muting the montages to spare my ears of that woman's god awful voice. The sad part is, the idea for this movie is great, as I am all about saving trees and protecting the forests. But the tone of Silent Running just turned it into a bunch of "tree-hugging hippie crap". I enjoyed Bruce Dern more in the part of the psycho, gun-toting neighbor in The Burbs (one of my favorite comedies).

Now, how anyone can miss the dark beauty of Blade Runner is beyond me. This movie, is by far the greatest science fiction accomplishment ever to be printed on film. There is MUCH to be gotten from this film, as it speaks about our own humanity in many different ways. And aside from that, this particular vision of the future, is probably more than accurate, imo. And the score by Vangelis makes it that much better. Just thinking about that opening scene with the music sends chills up my spine. Blade Runner is by far and away Ridley Scott's masterpiece, and the best movie Ford and Hauer have ever been part of.

And please, don't say Star Wars. The original Star Wars trilogy, in its ORIGINAL format, is fantastic, break through, and fun. But Star Wars has been destroyed by its creator in so many ways, and on so many levels. And all that aside, when you compare a movie like Blade Runner to a movie like Star Wars, its just seems like Star Wars is more of a kiddie family movie, whereas Blade Runner is a serious science fiction film, made for adults. Thankfully, Lucas didn't 'eff up THX1138 too bad with his new cut of that film.

Anyway, that's enough...like I said. I love movies, and I love to talk about them. Great thread!

How about Slither (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0439815/) ? Anyone see this one? I had a similar idea about this film, I was totally expecting it to suck really hard, but it turned out to be loads of fun, full of silly, but VERY well done gore, and hilarious comedy.

I loved it, especially the Mayor. He makes the movie.

Hah! I actually bought that DVD. It has both the movie in its original form, and then with MST3K's treatment of it.
The original is unwatchable; the one with Tom Servo and Crow: utterly hilarious! :)

Supposedly at least two of the cast members later committed suicide after this movie came out(?)

I caught the Depp film "The Ninth Gate" and found it really good and interesting, until the end. One to get from Net Flix if you're into film noir, obscure religious horror and Depp. Another is the Jim Jarmusch movie "Dead Man"

It sure is nice to see that, with your bizarre vehicles, you also appreciate bizarre movies.

First of all, I can confirm that I have seen Shakes the Clown. Multiple times. Quotable. I've got to add Better Off Dead to the list, too, though.

Sci-Fi? There sure is a lot of bad sci-fi out there. I can't believe nobody's mentioned Dune yet! Silent Running had only one thing going for it: those cool little dune buggy-like things. But if you're really looking for cheesy bad Sci-Fi, you just can't beat Dark Star. Dark City has a special place on my DVD shelf, though.

Horror? Not really my thing. But I think Ginger Snaps is a riot, and the whole Resident Evil series is a lot of fun. I'm generally fond of zombie movies.

Obscure. Yeah, I like obscure. Check out Divorcing Jack some time. Or Boondock Saints or Run, Lola, Run, but stay away from the sountrack on that last one -- it causes speeding tickets. Thursday is a lot of fun, too, but good luck finding a copy of it!

Amelie. See it. Trust me.

Geeky? Sin City is pretty good, and I like Sneakers -- it keeps my copies of Hackers, Swordfish and Johnnie Mnemonic company. To round out the geek fest, I've got to throw Ghost in the Shell on the list, too.

Finally, I have to admit to really enjoying Dude, where's my car.

Bart, I agree with Slither. My new fav genre is horror comedy. Since Cabin Fever ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303816/ ), those films are always on my MUST SEE list. Cabin Fever, by the way, is extremely fun to watch and Cerina Vincent is simply one of the finest women to ever see the big screen. I mean cmon, she was the yellow Power Ranger! ;)

Anyways, I liked Slither so much I had to add it to my HDDVD collection.

To add another crappy flick, Superman Returns. Sorry, but Smallville kicks the crap out of that.

Yeah, Cabin Fever was decent, there was some really funny stuff in there. But Slither, yeah, its part of my DVD collection now also. And this just reminds me of another film that I absolutely loved: Ravenous (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0129332/)

Its certainly not for everyone, but man, I loved it. Its quirky enough, and violent enough to make it a really unique story. And the cast is just great. I highly recommend it.

Bart, I agree with Slither. My new fav genre is horror comedy. Since Cabin Fever ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303816/ ), those films are always on my MUST SEE list. Cabin Fever, by the way, is extremely fun to watch and Cerina Vincent is simply one of the finest women to ever see the big screen. I mean cmon, she was the yellow Power Ranger! ;)

Anyways, I liked Slither so much I had to add it to my HDDVD collection.

To add another crappy flick, Superman Returns. Sorry, but Smallville kicks the crap out of that.

Agreed. Amelie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/) is quite possibly the greatest all around film even made. It doesn't matter what nationality you are, what color you are, how old you are, man or woman, where you're from or anything. This movie is spectacular.

I would say it is on my top 5 list forever.

It is based upon the 1968 science fiction novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick. I found the novel online and loved it. It brings more light to the movie.

Yeah, I hear that a lot from people (that they didn't understand it). That is why I always suggest the theatrical release first, before the director's cut. I find that I prefer the cut with Deckard's voice over, because it does help with understanding the concept. But, once you understand it, the director's cut is actually better in some ways because it leaves more to the imagination, but unfortunately a lot of the violence is missing in the current DVD release of the director's cut. The real problem with the Blade Runner DVD releases though, is that a TRUE director's cut with ALL the footage has yet to be released. Supposedly, we are to see this released sometime this year, as a 25th anniversary edition...

Cool, it seems you like Asian cinema also! Old Boy is fantastic, I have seen the other two in the revenge series also, they are both decent but Old Boy is the best.

300 is so gay. All those half-naked men with body-waxes and sculpted physiques running around and flexing during the entire movie. Totally gay. Which cracks me up considering the target demographic for the movie is males teenage and 18-30, most of whom would swear off the movie if they realized what was staring them in the face. My 18-year old nephew who is gung-ho to join the marines after graduation almost suffered a head implosion when the imagery was pointed out to him.

I do watch a lot of asian movies - South Korea has had an amazing renaissance over the last decade (I attribute it to finally achieving true democracy in the mid-80s or so). My favorite movie of all time, is the Korean Oasis (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320193/) which is probably the most powerful love story that I've seen (although Lars Von Trier's Breaking the Waves (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115751/) is more intense, but ends without any opportunity for hope, unlike Oasis which I saw as a very hopeful film). A total 180 from either of those is the super-fun romantic comedy that just about everybody in Asia has seen or at least heard of My Sassy Girl. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293715/) Also Spy Girl (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390043/) which is hilarious and does a good job (intentional or not) of showing how South Korea is like America (McDonalds and mega-malls) and how it is not like America (particularly how the north-south division affects everything at some level or another) - plus the female lead is one of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen.

Wow, that's hilarious that you thought 300 was "gay". I didn't catch a single gay vibe from the whole movie. It sounds more like (no offense) you might be a little homophobic?

What I liked about 300 was the way it was filmed, edited and put together with the f/x. It was a stunningly visual film. So if you are a sucker for pretty pictures, I just can't see how you didn't at least appreciate this film. And don't forget, this was a film based on a comic, and if memory serves me right from all the comic book reading I did, most of the comic heroes were ripped, ultra-muscular men in tights. :)

But anyway, enough of that, I don't want to start some sort of gay or not gay debate.

I agree on the S. Korean revival. They have been churning out some of the most original films I have seen in recent years. I enjoy alot of Chinese and Japanese stuff as well, but the S. Korean stuff really is a breath of fresh air.

I will certainly check out some of the films you mentioned below that I have yet to see!

But, speaking of gay movies, check out Bungee Jumping of their Own (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276818/) its a Korean romance where the wife dies and is reincarnated as a male. Eighteen years later the husband has remarried and has a job as a teacher. The reincarnated wife shows up as one of his pupils and it goes from there. The name of the movie won't make sense until the very last 5 seconds, so pay close attention. I liked this one so much that I hunted down the OOP limited edition and paid $30 for it because there was no in-print edition at the time. Six months later, it was back in print in a regular edition for $10.

LOL, That's funny, I mean, I think 300 could appeal to the gay audience in the way that you are saying, sure, but I guess I just took your previous comment as if you were saying the movie was meant to be a gay flick. From my point of view, most films show sexy women, naked or just about, all the time, so it really wasn't big deal to show a bunch of buff dudes wearing nothing but some black briefs with red capes. It was just the aethstetic film, imho.

But you're right, I'm sure the gay audience loved it for that reason!
