How many splines are there on the Vx rear axle??
I used to know this, but it has been a while since I was in to the rear that deep.
Can someone refresh my memory?

Now that would have made a great monthly trivia question.

If we have the 26 spline Japanese model, then I guess a lockright or powertrax isn't available for the rear of the Vx. Matt says he's pretty sure there is an ARB that will fit. I looked through the ARB apps.pdf, but didn't see one that looked like it would fit though. I hope he's right. When I find out for sure, I'll post the model numbers.

I had heard there WAS a PowerTrax unit avail - do I need to count the splines again?

I think you guys are talking about lockers, but I'm not a hundred percent sure.
Todd Adams is locked front and back with ARB, you might want to ask him which one he got.

No Tim, Todd is not locked front and rear. Just on one end.
Cute switch though huh?

(Yes, lockers and axles)

I'm not sure Tone,, but I think you are right....

LOL. That'll teach me to just look at the picture without reading the information as well.

JFYI,
Talked to magic Merlin today at St. Charles Isuzu.
The rear axles for the VX are the same part number as the 1992-1997 Trooper.
(in case you're ever between a rock and a hard place)

How many splines on the front axles? Are the front axles VX specific?

Swordy

Front axles have 17 splines, and are NOT Vx specific.

Thought I saw a post by Grandpa Bob about having gotten a spare set from a boneyard off a VX. What other front axle assemblies will work? Thanks.

I'm sorry, I missunderstood what you were asking. I believe the halfshafts are Vx specific. They are almost the same as the ones on the other 10 bolt diffs. The difference being that some of the axle shafts (between the CV's) are slightly different lenghths. The company that rebuilt mine led me to believe that there are other models that are the same lengths. Howeve, I don't have any evidence to support this claim, so take it with a grain of salt.

Has anyone checked into the Dana 60's to see if they have a fit for the front end? I saw the Dynatrac d 60's that Walker Evans has set up front and rear on his competition crawler and they are sweet! I am sure the price tg is equally as sweet, but was just curious.:naughty:

You can have a Dana60 built for whatever you want, and however you want it. I think that may be a little more axle than a Vx needs though. ...unless your running 37+" tires. But yeah, that would definitely be sweeet.

97-99 Troopers (w/o center axle disconnect) RH and LH CVs
are the same as the VX...

also 99-01 troopers, either side CV axle will work on
PASSENGER side ONLY for the VX

If you were in So Cal, I'd say http://www.TriCountyGear.com
East coast , maybe http://www.tellico4x4.com could likely set you up.
I believe Michael Woods had the 60's for his awsome Amigo done at http://www.boyceequipment.com (probably modified military bolt pattern 60's)
MO? who knows
Moser Engineering
Dutchman Motorsports
Currie Enterprises
Dynatrac
Are also good sources.

Realize though, you are not talking some cheapy minor mod here. This is the ***** and it aint cheap. If you have a dana 60 in front. That is not IFS, that is a solid axle. Then you are talking coil over springs, driveshafts, bake booster, master cyl, and such which will add another 1500(ish) to the picture. You are looking at at least 3.5k to do this yourself, and probably closer to 4.5k+.
GMC has a 1 ton IFS that might be modifiable for the front of a Vx.
I doubt any of these mods would be worth it to most people, unless they are serious rockcrawlers.
And BTW, If you do it, I'mma come drool on your truck!

Yes, I believe you are right. We were just discussing that in the ARB thread.
