I just picked up my Ironman last night and am already thinking tires... of the off-road type! I have the 18" wheels and have some nice, new tires on them... but they aren't anything for offroad. I want some nice MTR's. So what size will fit under a stock VX without lifiting? How big can I go with a lift? A Jeep friend of mine is already hacking on me that the VX is gonna look nice driving back and forth to the mall... saying that it won't go off-road... even saying that he would make sure his wife was available with their Cherokee for when I take him out and get us stuck in the VX. Don't ya love friends?! lol Anyway, need to start looking at tires.

The stock 18" are basically 29.58x9.65 tires (245/60 18) so you could find lots of 29x9.50 tires out there that should fit. Anything bigger would require a speedo recalibration, but I imagine that an inch bigger (30x9.50) should fit without rubbing. There's an easy and quick lift we can do by twisting a torsion bar, provides about 2" of lift I read: http://www.vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=738

That should easily let you fit 31" tires I'd imagine, right?

That guy put 285/60/18's on (31.5x11.2) without a lift, but I bet he rubs em...

You should try a search here and on Club VMAG. There have been numerous threads reguarding tires. I am running 32X11.5 Mickey Thompson Baja Belted on Konig NRN Off-Road 16X8 Rim. I just had to Shave some minor cladding. If you look in the gallery you would see that some of our members had changed tires and rims as well.

I switched 2000 rims for some 1999 rims on my VX and have 265/75/16" tires without modification, which is 31.65 inches. That is using stock rims. You can go bigger if you trim the clading which is very easy to do. After market rims will be different becasue of offset. With a 3" lift i think the biggest would be 33", but i am not totally sure, i don't have a lift (yet).
