Spazz - I know you have, at times, had some large items you wanted to sell & had this same comment. Check into Greyhound Package Express - it's usually MUCH less than UPS or one of the other alternatives. You can also go with a terminal-to-terminal less than truck load carrier. I've used Greyhound many times and was shocked at how inexpensive it was. I took a chair to the local UPS store and was quoted $145 to ship - took it to Greyhound and shipped it for $34 (they even boxed it for free!). The person on the other end had to go to the terminal, but they were glad to do so for the savings!
