In case anyone is interested, I noticed there wasn't a good EGR Valve cleaning HOW TO out there, so I made one and posted it to my web site. There also wasn't an illustrated Fuel Filter replacement HOW TO (though there were a few good non-illustrated ones), so I made that one too. If anyone cares to take a look, and offer any suggestions if I left out anything important, I'd be happy to update them.

Great job and thanks...What are the symptoms that the ERG is in need of cleaning? Bad idling, acceleration, an error code perhaps?

I'm with dkmiller68. What are the signs of failure?

If it gets clogged enough it will set off an error code / check engine light and can cause rough idling. Some have even claimed that it can cause engine failure, but that is questionable.

If the nut becomes loose, it will cause a diesel exhaust or clicking sound from underneath the hood.

After giving mine a thorough cleaning I felt as though my VX ran and idled a bit smoother. The improvement was minor, but worth the 10 minutes it took.

Thanks kpaske.
Also, NAPA sells a replacement gasket with a screen in place for the valve hole (large hole), about $10.00. This helps with breaking up the carbon as it passes through. Helping to keep the carbon from building up in the egr.
I had this problem with my S-10 SS. It caused the engine to stall at idle and under load on the highway. Got so bad the truck wouldn't run. Took off the egr and cleaned it real good/replaced the gasket with the NAPA one and it has run just fine since.

Nice work on both pieces. I'll be in my garage this weekend. Thanks
