I wouldnt mind an 10 inch eclipse or JL.
And yes i would like to keep the spare> I just want a nice sound for myself in the car so a 10 incher should work

If you're interested in creating custom sub enclosures . . . I'd be interested in one for the back door using the Pioneer TS-SW124D.

Those pioneer subs are pretty cool for very shallow enclosures, but I'm not sure you'd really need them for the rear door of the VX. Notice that the recommended enclosure size isn't much smaller than most 12" subs (about .8 of a cubic foot - my Orion's are sealed in 1.0 cubic foot). I don't think depth is really a big issue, even for those enclosures built inside the spare donut tire. Of course, I've never listened to them so they might sound great, but my guess is you'd be better off with a traditional full-depth sub like an Orion or a JL Audio.

Thanks for the info. I don't know much about audio stuff . . . yet

Its all about the size of the Sub Box, the sub can be tuned with different sized enclosures. You cant just make one just any size if you want the best out of your sub.

depending on what sort of sound you are after a 6 or 8 inch in the right enclosure can sound really good too.

I have a good mate who does all this stuff for a living and I could help you with the size of an enclosure if you know what sub you are going to use.

jl audio 10" wo and w3v2 are real close in enclosure size. i would suggest the w3v2 in 2 or 4 ohm which fits in a .625 cubic ft enclosure. with a mounting depth of 5.75 inches. i will do some measuring tommorrow to see how easy it would be to build. there will probably be a lot of fiberglass work involved.
so to those that would be interested , what price sounds reasonably ? shawn

i have done some measuring and there is not much space with the spare still in. maybe .50 cubic feet. depth is about 6 inches.not very much room for a cabinet of the proper size. and i have not heard back from eclipse .

james, where were you going to get the eclipse sub from? maybe they have the info that i need?

OZ VX ,could you get any info on the eclipse 10" 9102 sub? mounting depth ,cubic feet of enclosure?

kpaske , the pioneer sub needs .80 cubic feet of space . a no go with the spare tire in.
thanks shawn

Hey Shawn

It doesnt have to be an eclipse.
Tone has a a 10 inch sub but I was thinking maybe an 8 inch might work

psychos2
11/15/2004, 08:20 PM
i think tones is free air sub (no enclosure).
a sealed enclosure sounds much better . an 8W3v2 would work perfectly. check it out here. shawn

I like the sound of this subwoofer, and it is easy to add to any system.

http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFBASSLINK

It is sealed, but has a passive radiator. It has a built in Amp with auto-on, and several mounting options.

The folks at this link will get it to your house for $255. They are authorized Infinity. (I have no affiliation).

Crutchfield and Circuit City (both Infinity Authorized as well) sell this same item, but are charging over $300 with shipping.

A great way to wire this in to your system is to build a breakout harness by buying the "into car" harness and the "into radio" harness, then splicing the runs to the L+, L-, R+, R-, and the remote amp wire back the speaker.

Metra makes a breakout harness just for this purpose. It's part number 60-7712.

If you want only one end, the "into car" end is 70-7712 and the "into radio" end is 71-7712.

The amp signal wire on Isuzu factory radios is one of the two unused locations. I honestly can't remember which one it is, but only one of them provides power when the radio is on, that is the one to use. My aftermarket amp is signaled this way. You will need an extra pin for that location, you can buy a second "into radio" adapter and move the pin from one connector to another. You may be able to get one from the Isuzu dealership. Toyota Part number 82998-12340 is an exact fit for this pin; you'll have to order it from a Toyota Dealership.

An easier way to install the unit is to splice locally at each rear speaker for the L and R and use the "auto on" feature of the speaker to avoid running an amp trigger signal. It may be possible to use the antenna amplifier's signal wire, but that's only if the antenna amp is nearby in the vehicle, you are comfortable splicing into this wire (noise worries, etc) and I am uncertain if this wire is powered when the radio is not playing (like when the CD or tape is playing).

Good luck! I make you no promises, let us know how it turns out.

I've heard the Basslink. I think it was in Zadam123' VX. It sounds really good.

I have purchansed a cheap (PLTBA12) Pyle sub with built in amp as a stopgap until I build an enclosure in the rear door. It cost me $94.00 delivered from an ebay delear.

I'm getting it installed next week. The only problem is that I did not realize how big the enclosure would be, but it should fit in the back behind the seats.

Does the speaker go in with the spare tire? Also, does it vibrate on the door really hard? I may be interested also, since I have a Sony explode 2 10's and it takes up my entire back practically as you can see if you go to my gallery....

psychos2
11/26/2004, 07:41 PM
i really do not think it will vibrate the door much. the sound is traveling away from the door.yes it fits tight inside the spare tire.i would like to try it before shipping it to james ,but that is up to him. shawn

Tone
11/26/2004, 09:14 PM
Shawn, if you will router the edge of the speaker opening you can get a bit more distance from the cone to the spare tire cover otherwise it could hit the cover on excursion.

I'm sure you have noticed the circular area on the cover that looks like it was designed for a grill! I usually make on that fits in there and can be stapled through the plastic outter ring that is left as a guide.

:p Tone i have to know how you got your rear 10" sub in the hatch to look so sweet!! I want to do that exactly,,,how do i do that???

Tone
11/27/2004, 07:39 PM
Simple plate like the one above but using a Free Air 10" driver (I believe the volume of the enclosure is too small for the driver being talked about - my first gen sub was an 8" solobaric in a 'glass enclosure).

Plate seals against the spare and gives some rear view thumping bass! Sure,it ain't no 12" in a sealed enclosure like I am running now, but when you need more space than bass, this is the ticket. I use the one in my rear door when I need to carry more gear or switch to the my 12" square driver in a custom enclosure when I really want to thump!

I can still do the plates and grills for $199 delivered - you add the sub since there is no use shipping a common item like that.

bulldog
11/28/2004, 07:07 AM
Tone,, so you can make the plate and grill for 200? does that include everything to mount it to the rear door or is that easy??

Tone
11/28/2004, 10:07 AM
Yes - black carpeted plate, mouting brackets and grill. You provide free air driver and wire to your amp. I will need your zip code to calculate freight though.

bulldog
11/29/2004, 07:29 AM
so you can keep the spare in right???

Tone
11/29/2004, 11:35 AM
Yes, see post above. I am making them tomorrow - please paypal if interested as I don't know when the next time I can make them is.

Wow...I'm thinking about getting in on this. Just bought my Vx a couple weeks ago, and found that I'm limited on where to put my current sub. Does it at least give a good sound? Or does that depend on what you're listening to?

psychos2
12/07/2004, 07:49 PM
catch77, it is like any other sealed enclosure. it will sound good all around.but will sound real good at certain frequences.it is only an 8" sub. but you know it is back there.it will need an equalizer of some kind to tone down certain frequences. heres a pic of the cover. shawn
