It took some searching, but I found this horn, which I think would be perfect for the VX:

Here's the sound clip:

What do you guys think?

I found it for sale here:

Got one- decent but a little lower than I liked so I have removed it. About $30 @ Pep Boys. I installed so they pointed out the openings in the lower part of the front bumper cover.

That's dinky car stuff. What you need for the VX is a Wolo train horn:

At 157 db it will get someone's attention!

Hear it! (http://www.wolo-mfg.com/837.wav)

Check the website, (http://www.wolo-mfg.com) they've got some serious products.

Yeah, that train horn is freakin' awesome. The best part, it gives you an excuse for an on-board compressor and mini-storage tank. 157 db... Ain't nothing even close! Just be sure to have 911 dialed on your cell and your finger on "Send", cause you'll make someone have a heart attack when you blow it! ;eekg;

I dunno. A horn like that is more likely to make someone WANT to hit you. I think the Italian horn fits the VX's character better. Save that monster for your dually.

Picked up the same horn at Auto Zone - $30. Great sound - much more fitting to the VX than the stock "wimpy" horn. Go For it - you'll love it! I made a custom bracket and installed mine in the stock horn position facing down behind the front bumper cover.

I wound up buying a pair of them on eBay for $15 each + $6 shipping. :D

I want a really deep horn, nothing I've heard on any aftermarket sites sounds like what I am looking for.

Has any one played that 18 wheeler game in the arcades? When you get to the second leg of the run, you get a new deeper horn.. THATS the sound that I want.

I was given a 150 db 2 Horn kit last Christmas, but haven't taken the time to install it yet. I believe it was bought on eBay for about $30. I'll update everyone on the sound when I get that beotch installed.

Those who have air horns, did you wire it to your normal horn switch (in the steering wheel) or did you mount a separate switch/relay?

150 db? Do tell!

Spike, did you listen to the Wolo sample? The more I look at that one the more I like, especially after I start thinking about the on-board compressor and tank. Although I think an ARB compressor would be my choice instead of the one from Wolo. Just an excuse for front 'n' rear lockers... ;Do;

Yes Joe_Black, I heard it.

Not looking to sound like an Acela ... More looking to sound like a rig with an almost fog horn depth...

Ahhh, what you need is a Kahlenberg (http://www.kahlenberg.com) horn then. One of these baby's will make traffic come to a screeching halt while everyone waits for the QEII to clear the intersection.

Hear it! (http://www.kahlenberg.com/audio/model_kdt-123.mp3)

Unfortunately they don't have a linkable picture for one of their, umm, beefier horn assemblies (about 3 feet in length!) but here's a sample: Hear the T4-A! (http://www.kahlenberg.com/audio/t4a.mp3)

But if you've got 4 feet to spare somewhere, and don't want to mess around with compressors and air tanks, then this is the uber electric horn:
http://www.kahlenberg.com/images/commercial/s-203c.gif

Hear it! (http://www.kahlenberg.com/audio/s203.mp3)

But if you still want the "big" sound in a more compact package, plus the added benefit of people going "What the ... ???" when looking under the hood, then how about this:
http://www.kahlenberg.com/images/airsteam/trpwstle.gif
Don't look like much? Listen to it! (http://www.kahlenberg.com/audio/tripwhist.mp3) Still need the compressor for that bad boy. ;eekg;

Joe, that is funny! Now people will really think that the VX is amphibious :)

That 4 foot horn is similar to the kind of sound I am looking for... think it could be camouflaged by the roof rack?

:bgwb:

Better yet, I could work the tube into a coil... then mount it in place of the spare tire.

:clap:

yes, i agree. the 4 foot electric horn would sound a lot better then the little tricycle sounding stock. too bad it is so big and no place to fit it comfortably under the hood.

i am also looking to change the horn and want a stronger sound to it. the european horn is still a little too high pitched for my taste. guess i will just have to do some more looking around
