What if any head unit is compatible with the stock 6 CD changer? I get different answers from each retailer. Thanks.

Swap out the stock head unit for anything with mp3 capabilities and you won't need a CD changer. With mp3 you can fit hundreds of tracks on a single CD, you'll run out of time, gas, daylight, road, before you run out of music. I put a Trooper pocket in place of my CD changer to hold a case of 24 CD's full of mp3's. I average 200 full length tracks per CD, which is above and beyond what the stock changer can hold at 20 tracks or less per CD x 6. I have yet to listen to 200 tracks in one sitting, but i have over 5000 tracks ready to roll. Go mp3 :D

I read somewhere on the Internet that the stock head unit and CD changer are made by Fujitsu Ten, which makes Eclipse car audio. I saw someone's website where they where using an Eclipse head unit that had a motorized video screen and they had it hooked up to the stock changer.

Does anybody else have more info on this?

We’ve been told NOT - how about checking with that web site where you saw it?

I just recently burned a cd for my daugther and put some MP3s on it. As I went to pick her up for cheerleading she asked if I could put her cd in I said go ahead. It accuatlly played MP3s. I thought that the factory Changer couldn't play MP3s.
I had to take out all my Audio/Video gear out my VX due to the fact that some places here in RI wouldn't even touch it with the mods I had done to get it inspected.

The 6-Disc is made by Fujitsu Ten. It's an almost exact replica of Eclipses CH5061 unit.

I will try to find out if an aftermarket Eclipse deck can interface with it. Afterall, I sell their stuff.

I've been searching for that sight where I saw the Eclipse radio... haven't found it yet but did see that PartyDown.com listed that the OEM head unit's with CD controler, use the Eclipse E Lan 12-pin Data AT cable.

tdwag -- are you totally sure that you didn't have any regular CD tracks on that disc? Do you have a standard CD player that you know can't do MP3 - like a discman or one in your home stereo that you can put the same disc into and see if it plays?

I tried playing mp3s too and it doesn't play. It will play .wma files though. Are they the same as a regular music track?

Roxio, and other "BurnWARE" (NERO etc...) will decode your mp3's on the fly and burn them as a standard audio track, this however eats up 10 times the space on your CD. This is a good thing for most people, because it makes the software easy to use, since most people just want to hear the music regardless of the player they put it in and do not care about saving disk space, because CD's are cheap, but for the die hard technogeek who wants 200 tracks per CD you will need to bypass this little helpfull feature and copy your mp3 files as "DATA" and this way they will not be decompressed and you will fit more tracks on each CD for exclusive use on a mp3 player. A mp3 player is different from a standard CD player because it is capable of decoding compressed mp3 files.
