Just got a new Crutchfield catalog and found the solution to my back-up camera plans. Check it out: Sony CDX-M9905X (http://www.crutchfield.com/cdxm995)

It has a really nice balance of features, an auxiliarly input for my SIRIUS portable and will display a video input (backup camera!) in several different modes. I was working on a version of the fuzzy-hole camera setup, but not after seeing this!

Now, that IS cool!!!!
I didn't want to change the dash on Moncha, only because I want to keep him as cherry as possible but, this is almost impossible to pass up. Tough one to decide, TFT in rear view mirror, or this... Hmmmm

Nice find Joe!!

That's pretty nice, and the price isn't TOO bad... I've seen Sony's current model out, allowing images on the skinny screen (no video), and it's a nice picture. It's too bad Sony has racked-up a somewhat unstellar rep for their car audio products over the past few years. I think it's just due more to more flash than performance (Xplod stuff). Their older high-end stuff was very highly rated and performed very well.

I would assume Sony's higher-end products are still of great quality. I wouldn't buy Sony monitors or TVs any longer as there is just as good or better available (didn't use to be the case) for a smaller price, but they still make nice stuff!

Yeah, I know what you mean as I used to get their ES line of car audio. All that Xplod stuff is the budget line jazzed up. The guts of this unit "appear" to be pretty decent though, especially with the pre-amp filtering and internal amp bypass. That's like having a built in electronic crossover and should add longevity by shutting down the onboard amp circuit. But the video features are awesome for a standard-size unit!;Do;

Way cool! And you can find for as low as 458$! Scott, the mirror is big and ugly! Dont do it!

Maybe it is just me, but I doubt that a camera will/would assist me when I am in reverse .......
.
but then again, I was never the best using mirrors .......
.
with a dump truck (or similar) it was never a big issue - bang - big deal ......... but I do not look forward to crunching into something with a VX ........
.
at least truck mirrors are bigger - especially the height (vertical size) ......
.
I especially do not know how many of you get out of tight spots when you are in the woods ........... me ? - I would have oak tree 'signatures' all over the back of my VX ........

Camera is INVALUABLE (with a decent sized screen) when operating this vehicle on AND offroad. Remember, Isuzu designed that in from the beginning. I have a wide angle color camera that is also connected to the turn signals so changing lanes if even safer now. I ponied up the extra $450 and got DVD, MP3, CD, and TV tuner though. Makes traffic jams far less painful with updates and weather.

BTW, I offer 2 cameras on my site that offer image reversing.

Read the "detailed info" on the link at the beginning of this thread: It doesn't distort the image, but can display it in a variety of ways. The one I think is cool has the video input (like from a rear camera) in the middle of the screen with a spectrum analyzer on either side. I haven't seen any mention of an image-reversing feature, so you'd need a camera that does it for proper rear viewing.

Thanks to all who went price hunting too! Look for a review next month! ;Do;

Just found out there's another version with a different model number. The button illumination color is fixed on both models, the first I listed is blue and this one is red: Sony CDX-M9900 (http://sm.crutchfield.com/S-jUhsXmImRbf/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?a=0&s=45&cc=01&g=62700&id=essential_info&i=158CDXM990)
