View Full Version : Alarm/keyless Entry

I bought my 2000 a yr ago and didn't get a manuel or a keyless entry. I went to the dealer and said there is a light indicator on the dash but I wasn't sure what it was for. He looked and said he didn't see that the 2000 came with one. If it's not for that then what is it? It's on the dash located below the defrost button.

Does anyone else know if they come with the keychain keyless entry and if so does it have a factory alarm?

Dealer went ahead and ordered the keychain remote but He said they will have to program it according to the VIN.

Not sure how they can program it if it doesn't have that installed.
He said he would let me know when it's in but wasn't overly helpful otherwise.

Thanks.

Yes, they came with the keyless entry & the alarm system, and that red light is the security monitor. It flashes when armed or disarmed.

I've found that when it come the VX dealers are dumb. They don't know crap about the standard features and when it comes to the alarm they're clueless. My alarm/keyless entry works but doesn't make a sound when I enable or disable it. There is a sound option to it but I couldn't make it work following the manual. I asked my dealership and they told me that none of them made a sound. Funny, at the time they had just gotton an Ironman in and it made a noise when I unlocked it to test drive it. Basically the bastards lied to me. I still haven't figured out how to get mine to beep when I use it, but I know the dealer is no help.

You have an alarm, just don't expect the dealer to make it operate. :confused:

Thanks for the help.

Also to throw in the mix my VX has a salvaged title because it was stolen somewhere near Denver and driven to KC before they got the guy.

It had no dmg and this is 50,000 miles later but I still bet the alarm is probably working if i can get the dealer to program that remote correctly.

VX_PA's dilema

Have you checked the alarm manual?

Here's the "buzzer" mode info:

BUZZER OPERATION MODE

The factory setting for the buzzer mode is buzzer ON. Selecting the buzzer OFF mode only affects the buzzer operation during remote arming & disarming.

NOTE: Power loss to the system (e.g. due to a dead battery in the vehicle) has no effect on the operation of these or any other features.

To change the buzzer operation mode, follow the steps below:

1) Sit in the driver seat with all doors and the tailgate window closedl

2)Press and release the remote control's top button once to lock the doors, then once again to inlock the driver door only.

3) Open the driver door only.

4) Insert the key into the ignition switch, and turn it to "ON" (not "ACC) 5 times (LOCK > ON > OFF > ON > OFF > ON > OFF > ON > OFF > ON) within a 10 second period.

* The buzzer chirps once.
* THe vehicle's marker lights and parking lights flash once.
* THe status indicator LED will turn on for 30 seconds.

-YOU MUST PERFORM THE NEXT STEPS WITHIN 30 SECONDS-

5) Select the operating mode

BUZZER OFF
A) Close the driver door
B) Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position. *
* the buzzer chirps once.
* the marker lights and parking lights flash once.

BUZZER ON
A) Close the driver door, then open and close it again.
B) Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position *
* The buzzer chirps twice.
* The marker lights and parking lights flash twice.

* If you do not turn the ignition key to "OFF", or exceed 30 seconds during the programming steps, the status indicator LED will turn off, and the operation mode will remain unchanged.

Let us know if it works. It could be something else is wrong with your horn or electrical system.

In case you or anyone else here needs keyfobs or keyless entry module, I have one... just pulled it from my VX a few little bit ago. I will be installing my Clifford Matrix RSX3.5 during my rewire stage of my motor swap. Since my keyless entry system has already been partially cut out of the system, I decided I will wire around it if need be... I have the module, the wire harness plugs that go to it, and TWO key fobs... I assume that the fobs don't need to be reporgrammed to the module but could be wrong. Again, if you or anyone else here is interested... drop me an email at rreed17@kc.rr.com or post here... although email is more reliable for me... Lemme know.

Hmmm... how did I miss that when I was RIPPING wires out of the VX?! I'll have to go take a peak and see if mine is still there... probably not... but if it is... it will go with the keyless entry module and fobs. TTYL!

I'm pretty sure the alarm/keyless entry was a standard option, even in 99.

If yours really doesn't have it, I recommend a after-market alarm instead, like a Clifford or Viper. Pretty much any of the DEI brands. http://www.directed.com/

If you question whether or not your VX even has the keyless entry module in it, look up under the drivers side dash, to the left of the steering column... there will be two black boxes on brackets. The keyless entry box has three plugs on it, one plug has only one wire (white or light gray), the other plugs have 6-8 wires each... if that box isn't there... well... maybe they put it in a different place in 99... but doubt it.

you know. I was confusing it with the keyless tech for the FX45. Where you can keep your key in your coat and the car still starts. I have been using the keyless entry since i purchased it.
