View Full Version : Can this cause a po160 code

I recently had a po161 code which is my oxygen sensor when I change the sensor I am now getting a po160
I tried to screw the new one in all the way but there's a very slight Gap here is a picture could this be the cause of the new code. How do you upload an image file on this site. I put it in my gallery and then use that web address and it's not showing on this post.

From the manual:

If the Bank 2 HO2S 2 signal voltage remains between 400 mV and 500 mV for an extended period of time, DTC P0160 will be set.

Heated Oxygen sensors are used to minimize the amount of time required for “closed loop” fuel control operation and allow accurate catalyst monitoring. The oxygen sensor heater greatly decreases the amount of time required for fuel control sensors Bank 1 HO2S 1 and Bank

2 HO2S 1 to become active. Oxygen sensor heaters are required by post-catalyst monitor sensors to maintain a sufficiently high temperature for accurate exhaust oxygen content readings further from the engine.

Basically, your new sensor is either bad, or you have a faulty electrical connection to it.

This is the second sensor and both of the new ones only screwed in up to that point which is why I was wondering if it has to be flush in order for it to work. Can everybody see that picture or no?

After searching through the manual, you need to do the following:

1) Make sure the sensor is mounted fully and securely. I assume that means flush.

2) Check the exhaust for leaks

3) You may need a new catalytic converter, it will throw the same error code. Not sure how to test one though.

If everything else is good, no exhaust leaks, sensor seated properly, wires not touching exhaust and are free from damage, you either need to 1) change the sensor (again) or have it tested. There is a tool called a TAC2 that is from Isuzu, but I don't know how to get one, that runs the test. Or, 2) replace the catalytic converter. That last part sounds expensive.
