View Full Version : Chrome Mirrors Available

I'm pretty sure i have a line on 20 sets of chrome mirror heads for the VX. Looks like they'll go for around $115 plus shipping. I will know for sure tomorrow night, but I'd like to gauge interest here before I spend $2300 and get stuck with them! this is NOT a cover - it is a whole mirror head. We will have to take the guts out of our mirrors and install them in these (the guy is supposed to show me how to do that tomorrow).
Let me know if you're interested - not a committment, just interest at this point. I'll be keeping a set for myself, so there will be 19 sets available.

Where are you getting them, and is it made FOR the VX, another Isuzu, or is it just an aftermarket?

They are Rodeo mirrors, which the guy confirmed is the same. They are OEM prototype mirrors that were never made available to the public.
BTW - I went to the local dealer to look at the Rodeo mirrors - the heads are exactly the same, but the mount on the door is slightly different - looks like the head will mount to our bracket - I'll know more tomorrow!

I picked up the first set of mirror heads tonite for testing - good news and bad news. The good news is that they are dead on, at least from the outside. I got a quick lesson on installation and plan to tackle the project tomorrow (have to get a hair dryer - I don't have enough hair to own one for any other reason :( )
The bad news (really Bad!!) is that there aren't 20 sets - there are only 6 besides mine  I looked back over the post and it looks like the list is as follows:
1) Capri
2) Military vx'r
3) Tomdietrying
4) Hiss
5) Deathbyarchitect
6) Omega VX
7) Apostle
8) Hchen
9) TrooperCROSS
10) Lenny
11) Loco6464
12)Vcamilo
13) Robvx
14) Skunkworks
I couple of people were iffy, but I can't imagine that we'll make it to the end of the list - and for that I apologize, I was just going by what he told me on the phone.
My quick installation instruction were as follows;
-snap cover off interior mirror mount & remove bolts
-remove electrical connector
-remove 3 bolts attaching head to pivot (mine doesn't have covers over the holes for these bolts - does anyone else?)According to this guy, they should have plastic covers to cut down wind noise??
-use hair dryer to heat the black plastic gasket around the mirror gasket (black line you see around the glass)
- use a plastic spatula to pry the mirror glass out - he says the glass isn't glued in, but has a butyl tape behind it to reduce vibration, and that the mirror glass will stick to this over time
-remove screw behind mirror
-remove three screws holding motor into housing
-reverse the process and install into new housing
He said 25 min per mirror - I'm figuring an hour each. Sounds like the only hard part is removing the glass without breaking it. He threw in a set of mirror glasses for me, and I think I can get him to do the same on the other 6 sets, which should eliminate the risk of being "mirrorless".
I asked him about chroming our mirror heads, and he said it can't be done, they won't hold up to the heat. HOWEVER - you could buy a set of Passport mirrors from a junkyard, disassemble them and have them chromed. These are Passport mirrors, they are made of a different plastic than the Isuzu mirrors. The Isuzu mirrors are made from a plastic that resists UV fading, but it will not stand up to the heat of chroming or paint booth baking. The Passport mirrors were painted, so they were made from a different plastic which would withstand the heat. Just a little FYI...
I'll post tomorrow with some pics after I get them installed :luck:
One other thing - close inspection revealed that the chroming on these mirrors isn't perfect. There are very small imperfections - the size of grains of sand (just re-read this, actually they are smaller than grains of sand - very small) - at least on the set I have. You don't notice them unless you are right up on the mirror, and they are not all over, just in couple of small areas. I'm fairly anal when it comes to my car, but I can live with it - for those of you more anal than me, be advised!

Bad news, while the outside of the mirrors are identical - the internal mounting holes to mount the power mechanism are in different locations (go figure?). So it's a no go - sorry to get your hopes up!

Military VX'r - you can buy the set that I bought, if you want. I thought about gluing some new attachment points to the inside of the mirror, but was afraid it wouldn't hold up. If you want them, they were $115. One thing I'll mention to you, the stock mirror heads are a biatch to get off. They are put on with phillips head screws and blue lock tight. With lock tight on there (which I didn't know when I started this process!), the heads on the screws just round right out. Since you're dealing with plastic all around the attachment points, I could think of no other way to remove them than to take the whole mirror assembly off the car, drill the heads off the phillips screws to remove the mirro head, and then heat the screws to remove the remaining portion - a REAL pain in the A**!! One other thing - there is no connector on the mirror wiring (that I could find - unless it is inside the door panel), so I had to cut the wires leading to the mirror (6 of them) and then resolder all the connections.

can you show me a pic of what exactly your talking about? I need to get an idea of what I'm up against.
Uh, Serge has 10 sets of chrome mirror covers that he bought based on serious inquiries from here and now only 5 or less have followed through. They are ready to ship and I have agreed to buy the balance of the orders if no one steps up to get them since he went out of his way to help us.

Thanks Tone,
From the 15(!?)"I want them" replies, 6 people actually came through and paypalled immediately....
It could be the price ($170+$20shp), but for that price there`s no profit for me what so ever. They`ll cost $156,- dollars to manufacture(by the original OEM supplier),+ money lost by paypal,+exchange rate makes...$170,-
Since I have little time, I asked NAOKI to handle shipping for me, which he does so perfectly, most people who orderd theirs already received theirs, including a small token of VX love.
In return for this I help him sell his halfmoon and other VX products.
There are 4 sets left, one set I put on e-bay and the other will go to Tone if nobody follows up on this offer.
I`m in kinda hurry since I`m preparing to leave to Europe for Holiday.
Again Tone thanks a bunch!:D

The price is $170 + $20 shipping. No need to bid on Ebay. He cannot use the buy now feature because of his geographic location, Since you are a member of this forum all you have to do is send Serge an e-mail with questions or Pay Pal him the money. I got mine in believe it or not 3 days (paypal on Wednesday got covers on Saturday) oh and Serge / Naoki thanks for the little hot wheels VX.
I orderd mine on Wednesday and got them on Sunday. Really first quality Chrome mirror covers. Thanks Duthie/Naoki.... Cool toy too!;eekg;

Derogatory slang for a japanese person - he is refering to Naoki, a guy in Japan who procures mods for the VX, they are expensive. A guy with the name "maui" in his login ought to know better than to use a slur like that.

Naoki, albeit selling somewhat expensive products, does not deserve that type of slander. He has been helping the VX community and your (fishhookmaui) personal racial opinions should be kept personal and not spewed on this forum.

I originally started this thread, and had a line on several sets of chrome mirror heads (as opposed to covers) that were prototypes made for Izusu for the Rodeo. While the mirrors are identical in everyway from the outside, the internal mounting points (for the mirror head and motor) as well as the base mounting points are different. After numerous hours of work, the guy I bought them from was able to fit them to my car; however, he said that he would not do any additional ones. To make them work required using Rodeo mirror heads and motors and combining the mounting structures so that they will bolt up to the factory mounts. I think he still has some of the mirror heads, but as I said, the work to mount them is extensive.

I can't seem to get a str8 response from anyone, as to whether they still exist or are available. Everyone seems to wanna keep repeating and discussing what's already been said in the previous treads.

Wow Fishfood, were did that come from? Naoki hardly made a cent from the things he's selling...and as far as I can remember he had never any dealings with you. So what's the beef? Still pissed off about Pearl Harbor?
Or were you refering to me:D , than you made a mistake mr. fishfood, I'm not Japanese, I'm Dutch, so that would make me a cloggy, a drugsdealer, a guy with his finger in the dyke, a cheesehead or maybe a Tulipd1ck
Dapenetrator, and others, let me explain that labour cost is very high here in Japan, the average salary of a 16year part-time mr. Donuts worker is $11,- an hour. Can you imagine the costs for a professional. But Naoki never failed to deliver the goods, better you get your stuff within two weeks in perfect order.
Yes there's cheaper, but not more reliable...
