Time for new tires

Well after 45K miles on my Yokohama Geolander A/T-S tires it's time for new shoes for the Dragon.

I am currently running 275/60/18s and this size is limited in options. I cannot run 275/65/18s with my current wheels without a lift or significant cladding removal. I tried to put Nitto's on it 5 years ago and it was just more than I want to do.

I can go with the Yoko's again and just call it a day but I'm really wanting something different.

265/65/18s will work and I like the looks of the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs. I'd gain some height as well but the tires are a bit narrower. Nothing else in this size really grabs my attention and I need something that is great in the snow here in CO.

I saw that PittVXer put these on his '99 back in '09. They looked good and he had some good things to say about them.

Any feedback from those who have used these in the past is appreciated. The Goodyears are about $200 more than the Yoko's and I need to make a decision this week.

I went with Yoko Geo AT-S 285/60 18 on 18.8.0 wheels with very minimal cladding trim up front.

My challenge is that my offset is -6 while the OEM's are 38...pushing the wheels out that far causes substantial clearance issues.

I still have the stock wheels and that's another option but not one that I'm likely to use...:)

I've been looking into General Grabber AT-2's since I had them on a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 years ago and I had no problems whatsoever getting around in the snow.

And since I also have aftermarket rims with a similar offset to yours, I'd been considering 255/55-18's or 255/60-18's since I'd rather keep cladding trimming to no more than I've already done. And besides, a narrower tire does better in the snow than a wider one anyway, so unless you just like a meatier "look", you're not really doing yourself any favors going with wider tires for winter use.

The two choices I'm considering now are the Yokohoma Geolander A/T-S in 275/60/18 and the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac in 265/65/18.

I looked online you can get them cheaper however I don't know the age of the tire also they don't come with a warranty.

Earl have you looked at the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Wrangler+All-Terrain+Adventure+with+Kevlar&sidewall=Outlined%20White%20Letters&partnum=665TR8WATAOWL&tab=Sizes)? Tire Rack lists them at only $14 more per tire than the DuraTracs and they seem like a much better balanced tire from the surveys. Unfortunately they don't sport the mountain/snowflake symbol like the DuraTracs, but the scores are pretty close in the winter/snow survey category. Only downside I could see would be that the Adventures only come with white lettering. Just a thought.

I looked at the Wrangler Silent Armor's since they do have the mountain/snowflake symbol and since I've been very pleased with mine over the past 40K miles, but your size (and my 265/60/18 size) are no longer available. It looks like that tire is being retired in favor of the Adventure series.

IIRC Marlin was running some kind of Wrangler Kevlars & didn't have much good to say about them.

Thanks to all for the help.

I pulled the trigger on the DuraTracs today...issue with fitment for the 265/65 so I went down to 265/60's.

Put about 100 miles on them today and so far they are wonderful!
