I like the GT-R, as well, but they don't offer it in a manual, so :-\ As a big fan of the MKIV, I, along with a bunch of others, hope that Toyota uses this car to resurrect the Supra.

GT-R is using an automated manual (different from automatic), which is pretty bad$ss!!! AWD > RWD, but I do like Toyota's stying a bit more...

It's a DCT. You don't *have* to shift gears. To me, that's an automatic.

And yes, AWD > RWD, but not all the time.

ive read that the gt-r has a manual trans mode, but i dont think there is a clutch pedal

ive only seen one in person and the windows were tinted so dark i couldnt see in

i wonder if this is toyotas way of making up for its losses with the LFA - awesome car but they supposidly spent so much on research and development that they lost money even with a $300k+ pricetag - i could see these supras selling very good if they can keep the cost under control

ill prob never have either, but its fun dreaming

barrett jackson is OUT OF CONTROL - one of the biggest reasons old/rare cars are so unaffordable now by the everyday joe - they have made the prices skyrocket

that being said...i wish i was there lol

There is no clutch pedal in automated manual trannies. I am a HUGE manual tranny fan, but those trannies are better...

I'm sure they are better,but...Flicking your finger just doesn't feel the same as mashing that pedal to the floor and throwing that shifter around! Not to mention fanning the clutch lol:bgwb:

Drove a GTR at the race track this summer and it scared the crap out of me, compared to the Lamborghini that I drove earlier in the day. The guy in the passenger seat of the GTR just kept telling me to go faster and not brake going into the corner because the tires would hold the speed. I kept chickening out and hitting the brakes because the cement wall between the front straight and the pit road kept saying that the tires were not going to hold the speed. It was set in auto mode and I had all I could do just to try and go fast. I felt so much more comfortable in the lambo which was also set up in auto mode.

"Better" is a subjective term. If you want to keep a car @ stock power levels, yes. If you want to increase them, a DCT requires an upgrade/rebuild. A manual simply requires a different clutch.

High hp MKIVs. The 6MTs require nothing but a clutch. The auto couldn't hold the power, so they are switched to.....Powerglides.

E92 BMW M3. A guy on my forum has a DCT that his 773hp engine is killing. He tried custom carbon fiber clutch packs ($10k), but they stick, so he's back to his stock clutch packs that he has to replace with a higher frequency.

Since I don't keep anything stock, for me, a DCT isn't a better tranny....not by a long shot.

I am familiar with GTR and EVOX versions, both of those are better...

I suspect that Toyota will be closer to the GTR than to the BMW...

Well, if you are simply after the "experience" of manual transmission, then no automated manual transmission will do. But for performance driving these transmissions are the ultimate when it comes to switching gears!

Roll racing doesn't count. Roll racing is for people who dont know how to put the power down to the tires from a stop lol. Anyone can roll race pretty much. Takes control or AWD to launch a car. Now if that MR2 had raced that or GTR from a dead stop... The outcome might have been different. Just my .02

Roll racing is becoming more and more prevalent. The airstrip events held across the country attest to that. Started off as guys highway racing, and progressed to roll-on events. There are some of us that like to top end our cars, and that can't be done from a dig. A race is a race is a race, whether from a dig or from 60mph, as both are experienced in the real world. And not everyone can roll race; just as racing from a dig, you either have to control or AWD. 900hp from a roll can break loose just as easily as 900hp from a dig.

There are "organized roll races"? That is pretty sad... :rollo:

Are you sure you aren't talking about "TX mile" style racing, where launch isn't as critical, but still not a Roll racing?

Am I sure? No, I've just been to the TX Mile 5x or so  Pretty sure that I know the difference between roll racing and the Texas Mile. No offense, but with that statement, you've just pretty much told me that you're a tad bit out of sorts about what's what in the racing world nowaways. Soooooooooooo, with that, I'm gonna leave you with this (just a few of many):

So you can enjoy something as hard core as TX Mile and as bogus as roll racing? Strange.

To me, roll racing was something that was created by cry-babies who didn't know how to launch a car. I do not see it ever loosing that stigma and becoming a respected type of racing

I guess I am more into real drag racing, I never cared for drifting ether, and fortunately that fad is over!

Considering I see the same (1400hp+) cars and drivers participating at both events (Tx Syndicate & Tx Mile), must be a Texas thing. Glad we lead and don't follow ;) Usually, *we* are the close-minded type that try to narrowly define something instead of having an appreciation of it in all its variants.

And I'm guessing you don't like NASCAR, b/c last time I checked, they roll race.

No, I dislike NASCAR because they are automotive dinosaurs, talk about being the OPPOSITE of leading edge! I spend hours watching F1, but can't stand NASCAR.

However... I do enjoy racing on oval tracks... It is much more challenging than it looks!

I'm not a big fan of NASCAR either, and prefer F1. At least we can agree on that :D Saw both races here so far, as well as Australian V8 supercars, Continental Tire Series, and Grand Am/ALMS. We'll be adding MotoGP this year :)

It doesnt matter to me either way... roll or a dig. Roll racing is different than than the texas mile. I was only saying it takes more skill to launch a rwd car from a dig than it does an awd from a dig. I know my car runs better from a roll cause 1st and 2nd gear are useless lol. I can watch rally and touring car races all day, but nascar will never find its way to my tv or computer. Can't stand it. They're makin a left turn... and another left turn... ect. may be some skill to it, but its not for me.

This was me, pulling 1.39 sec 60' a few years ago:

http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae215/grndsm/Launch_zps127680e0.png (http://s973.photobucket.com/user/grndsm/media/Launch_zps127680e0.png.html)

Trust me when I say that being on the top of AWD launching game is NOT any easier than being on the top of the RWD launching game! It is easier to cut better 60' times on AWD when compared to RWD (with street tires), but that isn't saying much ;).

BTW, this launch and subsequent 10.0 second run, results in 0-60 time of around 2.1-2.2 seconds.

DSM faster than Bugatti Veyron 0-60?

60 foot

Leon R

60 foot time was 1.39
0-60 was calculated using existing formulas that take 60' and 1/4 ET and it is around 2.1-2.2 seconds.

That particular DSM is faster than Veyron, as it should be (better power/weight ratio and full slick tires). But its top speed will be around 200-210, well short of Veyron's 260+ ;)

i read they fill the tires with nitrogen because oxygen is considered "too unstable"
