View Full Version : Room Mate for Moab
MSHardeman
02/08/2012, 08:06 AM
Starting a new thread to make sure that those going to Moab see this as the original is buried in the Moab thread.
I, currently, have a double queen room reserved at "The Stoop" for the week of Moab, and it would be great to have a room mate to help defray costs. I will be checking in on Sunday, May 13th and checking out on Saturday, May 19th. If anyone is interested (in the whole week, or only part of it) let me know.

How hard is it do do a couple inch left? I currently have the biggest tires I can get without rubbing when I turn.

Its really easy for a small lift. MShardeman had his VX lifted in the Moab parking lot. Right Mark?
If you're not looking for too much lift, just go with a spacer or 913 OME coil springs for the rear axle and crank the torsion bars for the front axle. Use the search if you want more details, there are many lift threads out there...

YEP, mine was lifted by Jay and Dub at The Stoop (the parking lot of the Red Rocks Lodge),
http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/DSC03359.JPG
and MeowMix's was lifted in the same spot last year by Dub and Jo.

Super easy to do, particularly when you're sitting on The Stoop watching it happen.
Like VXorado said, the only thing that you need for a lift is either spacers for the stock springs, or taller springs for the rear and then you just crank the torsion bars in the front until you get the stance that you want.
Also like XVorado said, a completely stock VX is more than capable enough to do many of the trails out in Moab. Just pick the right line, trust your spotter, and all should be well.

I'll be heading for Moab in my Trooper on Saturday May 12th if you want to convoy. If their schedule permits we will be hooking up with Gill & CeCe coming from Chicago in their VX, somewheres around Des Moines, heading west from there.
You can go stock and have tons of fun, but an inch or two of extra clearance makes a surprising difference.

You can absolutely go with a stock VX, just plan for extra fluids, thats the worst thing most forget the first year. Also, know that you will be spending 6-10 hours a day in your vehicle, away from civilization. So, tons of water, and food, cooler, etc.

There's a few VXers coming from Texas (Austin -VX Crazy, Orion, Jay, and Dallas area -Scott Harness, Dumke, and one from Louisiana -tjh). You'd probably be able to caravan with one of them. I think they're departure dates or routes may be different so they're not all together.

I will be leaving Flagstaff Monday early am and going up to Page then up and around to Hanksville and then onto Moab. Taking the scenic route.

In talks with VXobsession (and her husband) right now about roomin' at The Stoop. Since they are in Arkansas and I'm originally from Louisiana there should be a good ol' Southern hoot-nanny going on. Sofa's on the porch, cars on cinder blocks, Southern Comfort flowing like water.....

Hate to throw this out into the public forum but; VXobsession, are you out there?
Moab is coming up SOON and I need to know if you guys are still going to make it out. Have tried PMing and emailing, but haven't gotten a response. It's fine if you aren't going to make it (it would be nice to meet you, though), but I need to know so I can hunt for another roomie if that's what needs to happen.
