Aug 26, 2011 20:26:27 : Craigslist sends C&D to jaxed.com
By: jaXed
The jaXed Mash has been presented with a "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" from attorneys representing Craigslist. In the C&D, The jaXed Mash was cited for violating the Craigslist Terms of Use. Cragislist has demanded that The jaXed Mash remove all Craigslist listing titles, and cease to index Craigslist listings in the future.

At this time, we are removing all Craigslist links from The jaXed Mash.

We know most of you come here specifically to search for stuff nationwide in the US and Canada. It is unfortunate that we will not be able to offer Craigslist as a source of data any longer.

The next few days and weeks we will be looking at merging new sources of data into The jaXed Mash. It makes sense to find smaller niche sites and forums and work with those sites to bring their listings to The jaXed Mash. If you know of any sites that you would like The jaXed Mash to index, drop us a line via Email, Facebook or Twitter (@jaxed).

Dang, I liked it's format better than some of the other "all of CL".. It searches ebay, Kijiji and CL.
Here's a sample I run for Vehicross:

y33........thats cool but doesnt compare to the jaxmash format...JM narrowed your search "WAY" down...to the specific item....for example, "stainless steel props"....you'd get exactly that

I narrow my searches down to specifics by using quotation marks.

yeah junky, I didn't like SearchTemptest's format and each data source being a separate page....so dumb question TREK (since I'm no longer married to a major computer genius)...can ya show me how to do the quotation marks to filter the results? :thanx:

SearchTempest.com (www.searchtempest.com)

Thats the site I use to search CL. They have another site just for cars called Autotempest as well.

And if an auto manufacturers' name is part of your search term, SearchTempest will automatically ask if you want to combine results from AutoTempest, Ebay, CL, etc.

I use quotation marks on SearchTempest the same way that I do on any other search engine when I'm wanting specific search results. "2001 Vehicross" will only return that year VX's, etc. Different combinations and search term orders are sometimes required because not everyone is going to type up their ad in exactly the same way, but that's generally true for any search engine.

On SearchTempest, a person can also narrow down their search to more specific results by further choosing from the specific ad categories offered. It's simply different, and whether it's any better or worse than any other Craigslist search engine would most likely just depend on who a person asks.

Ditto on SearchTempest. It's a little time consuming to look at the results from each CL site, but if you turn on the auto-hide empty results option it's actually not that bad at all. I'm not sure how jaXed actually works but I do know that search engines like Google return a "stale" result set that can be anywhere from 12-36 hours behind the current postings. That's where SearchTempest shines because it searches every site AT THE TIME YOU CLICK SEARCH rather than queueing results.

Like I said, jaXed may do the same thing in a different format, but SearchTempest is ol' reliable for me. :)

Or do you still get 1000's of results offering trunk lid tape and seat covers that can't even be installed like I get? Seems like that is why they complained people being able to get real results and not forced to give page views for crap sellers

It will narrow search results down, but probably not as you'd like if you also check the box for "Search Description", because the types of sellers you're referring to usually include as many automotive makes and models in their descriptions as they can to get hits.

If you're looking for something specific from a VehiCross on Ebay, you're probably better off getting more specific by also choosing a specific parts/ad category from your initial results. As an example, it's not likely that "trunk lid tape" will show up in the "Engine Components" category.

I find that if you search "vehicross -xenon" you will eliminate about 10,000 results in eBay (that is no exaggeration). In my experience about a hundred or so new items are posted each day, which doesn't take that much time to scroll through if you don't let it build up.

Another good idea. Usually it's just a matter of determining which type of Boolean search logic a particular site utilizes, then a search can pretty much be made as specific as a person wants.
