San Diego 1999 VX Iron Man owner having an issue with my flex-plate. After a trip to the mountains I heard a thumping between the engine and transmission. One of my buddies who used to run an AAMCO locally said it sounds like the flex-plate is broken. I dropped the VX off this morning to Southern California Transmission Specialist's and am hoping for the best.

Rohard, thanks again for the front skid....

Any thoughts would be great.

Maybe you'll be lucky and you're just missing the cross-member bolts? Good luck!

Although I am missing the forward drivers side bolt there is a bigger problem. How about a broken crankshaft..........
I am pricing out motors right now.

I had a crank break once. It was in my first truck, a Chevy S10 with a 2.8 liter V6. I had a wreck and the engine was replaced but they failed to replace a damaged balancer. It was out of balance and after a few months, down goes the crank...

Not mine with the lift. I was just getting started with the lift and tires when the engine gave out. At some point we will have to get together. There is a really clean one here on shelter island.

So I took the big dump in the wallet and got a re manufactured engine from Gearheads/ATK motors. Total with tax $3800.00 including tax, free shipping for my new and engine and core back to them. 3 year warranty with unlimited miles. Another $1500.00 parts and labor for the Removal and replacement.

Here is a link to their sites:

The re-manufactured engine has been in for 600 miles now. I was able to go out to some OHV trails in the Ocotillo area and last weekend down by the Mexican border. Sooo much fun off trail in this SUV.
You know, I have figured out how to eliminate the oil loss. Spend six thousand on a reman engine. Now that the engine is out of the way I am looking for a lift kit. Nothing drastic just some more ground clearance. Any suggestions?

Hi Bradley...

No "kit" needed per se...just a choice of OME springs and torsion crank.
I'd be happy to go through it with you over a beer.
