Fun little thread on "what decals would work", compared to those that "don't". Tasteful vs just plain garbage.

I recently came across this one from a local tuner shop vendor. I think it's brilliant! If I didn't have 2 black cars (lettering would get lost), I might consider it just for the fun value of being local to the Capital Beltway.

That's a classic and definitely the truth as any of us know that have been forced to drive there. One of the few places in the world that is a parking lot half the day and a race track the other half. A few years ago I took my GF up somewhere off 50 west of the beltway to pick up her G35 coupe from a body shop (we lived in Fredericksburg but she hit a deer on the way back from Pittsburgh one night and had to tow it to a shop in BFE). We raced from there all the way around the lower half of the beltway, across the WW bridge, and finally down onto 301 back to home. That was 5 years ago, and if a cop had pulled me over, I'm pretty sure I would just now be getting my license back. :eek:

Haha, I'd love that for my wagon, although it doesn't beat much since its a Saturn. :p Can't complain about 34 MPG though.

I thought it might be cool to put a Kuroari (http://redfaction.wikia.com/wiki/Kuroari_Company) or AmRuKuo (http://redfaction.wikia.com/wiki/AmRuKuo_Corporation) logo on my VX, although I'm pretty sure the number of people who would get it is way too small.

Not a decal, but one accessory that I definitely HATE are those ball-sacks that guys hang from their diff or tow hitch. I'm not going to post a pic because I think it's that ridiculous - makes me want to carry a pair of scissors around and get rid of them whenever I see them. So redneck and vulgar IMHO, and that's coming from someone who grew up in rural NC and appreciates dirty jokes.

I agree, with one caveat. I saw someone who had a section of chain that had a pair of 4" nuts strung on it. You know, like the nuts that go on a bolt? I would have let that go.

That's downright terrible. There are a bunch of rednecks and gangbanger looking guys in my area who think those hanging testicles are funny too, and I fail to be in the least bit amused...which seems to be the consensus here as well; and I too enjoy the occasional mentality of a teenager form of dirty jokes. :righty:

There was a guy in an 80's Monte Carlo with big ugly 20"+ chrome spinners who had a pair that he must have painted blue himself, or perhaps you can order them that way? Don't know nor do I care...though at least the Monte's testes weren't illuminated.

All the rest are just tiny little snippets of whats rolli'n around in my head at any given moment, sort of like transient truck tattoos.
Some are removed & replaced by another, that has become more pertinent to who I am, or where I'm at mentally at the present time.

But the bottom line is, just like ink, they ALL have a story that I am always happy to share with anyone who wishes to know.

Anyone know a manufacturer who could replicate the Badges on the Rear Door in black?

I realize that they would need to be stickers only versus raised.

I am planning on going "satin black" on my VX (with gloss accents) and wanted gloss black stickers for the:
1) TOD
2) 4WD
3) 3.5L

I don't need the giant ISUZU badge as I debadged that one.

Other option might be to heat em up and use the dental floss technique then once I get them off to repaint them in gloss black, maybe with appliance paint after I rough the badge up. Not sure how to do that with the TOD sticker since it is just a thin sticker and not a badge.

Thoughts?

Doug, I understand what you are going for, and I think it will look great. If you have a steady hand, I think you could make stencils out of frisk film or contact paper and then mask off and spray high gloss paint over the stencils to get the effect you want. With the TOD sticker you would just have to improvise a little. To me, stenciling is way to go, more permanent and not hard to do at all.

I'll have to experiment on some scrap metal. Saw a sport bike at the Commissary the other day that was professional satin with gloss black stickers and frame and it looked really sharp and minimalist. The satin thing is really coming back, and not just on old rat rods. I have seen a BMW and a Porsche lately done in satin.
