ALASKAVX & CPTNMORGAN,
Thanks! I can follow the trails but haven't a clue as to how to figure out the coordinate. If you can assist in that in a lamens kind of way it would be much appreciated! :thanx:

VXCAVER,
May have to do that. I was thinking when we first get there to do the Chimney Rock loop trail first then heading out to Chivo. I think a good place to camp, if it is not occupied, would be where we saw those others camped by the water. But I figure we should have a back up just in case. :bomb:

VCAMILO,
Not sure if I want to know what the "Big O Tent" is all about!;Dy; ;eeky; :deady: :winky:

What if I can only come on Sunday? Any chance of setting up a meeting place on Sunday AM, for those of us who can't commit to 2 days worth of fun?

We could definately do that Zu.:yesy: I think I have a few guys from work who are only able to do the first day. If anyone else would like to join in on day 2 let us know and we can send someone out for you guys. Zu, its about 40-45 minutes from I-10 to the trail head. I can give you directions to the trail head and we can meet up with you there. Let me know so we can set a time. Would be good to see you and the supercharged beast again! ;Dy;

Scouting camp sites next weekend. Will post some photos of the spots we find. For those wondering, I believe this is state land. An Az. state land use pass will cover you for camping. Those who bought one for the trip to Crown King it is still good (1year from purchase date)! This is back country camping so be sure to bring all that you need!:smack: :thumbup:

Okay, VXCAVER and myself did a little scouting trip this weekend and found a great camp spot. It is just off the "road" about 1/4 mile. Plus there is a bathroom (no running water but a place to park your bottom) about 1/4 mile away. We ran a new trail which actually had a mini Moab to our surprise. This is going to be fun! Then on the way out we swung down to "Three Feathers" so as to impress the jeep crowd by taking a nice line up the center (i.e. more difficult)!;eekr; ;Dr; Unfortunately the jeep crowd must have all been in church and only VXCAVER got to view this feat! Here are a few of the pics from the day and what you have to look forward to!

Great pics Billy.

I'm really serious about coming out on Sunday. Are you guys going to be taking CB's or FRS radios? We need to work out how, when and where we can meet up on Sunday morn.

Maybe you can PM me with more explicit directions to the trailhead.

Triathlete
10/14/2003, 10:05 AM
Will be using FSR radio's. As far as meeting up with us there are several options. The easiest would be to meet up with us at the camp site. It is pretty easy to get to and find. It will take you a bit of time to get there. Probably will need 1.5 hours to get there from the time you get off the freeway at Grant.
To get there you go east on Grant. you turn north (right) on Tanque Verde. Follow thi straight. It will turn to dirt and becomes Reddington Rd. Follow Reddington Rd. until the 10 mile mark. There is a trail/road that goes to the left with a white sign that that says something Ranch (if you have GPS it is at 32 18'24.8" 110 34'25.4"). About 1/4 mile in on that trail on the right hand side there is a large clearing by a hill....that is the spot. If you need more details let me know. Let me know what time we can expect you.

Billy,
What time are you guys planning on breaking camp on Sunday? I'm still planning on coming out to play on Sunday and want to know how early I need to leave PHX to get there in time. Any clue what FRS channel you will be using?

Any other VXers from Phoenix want to come with me?

The weather should be perfect for next weekend. With the rain their predicting for Tuesday, maybe the falls will be running on Sunday.

Triathlete
11/09/2003, 08:51 PM

0800!!! Who gets up that early on a SUNDAY????!!!! ;eekb;

We'll be camped just off the main road, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. We could leave a sign or something, or maybe print a map and distribute it here? I'd be happy to do that if it would make things easier for any Sundayers.

Billy, do you remember what that turnoff said? Borego Ranch or something like that? Just past the parking lot with the restrooms.

Triathlete
11/10/2003, 09:42 AM
Yep, I think that was what it was called. Probably be easiest to just put up a sign. as long as they can get to Reddington road, it easy to find! Its going to be a good one.

Forgot Bob needs his beauty sleep. But I think the fresh air will make up for the lack of sleep!:laughy:

To get to reddington road...
Get off I-10 at the Grant Rd. exit.
Go east on Grant until you get to Tanque Verde Rd.
Turn left on Tanque Verde.
Follow Tanque Verde until it becomes a dirt road.
When the road becomes dirt it becomes Reddington Rd.
Follow Reddington Rd. till you see the sign!!!!
;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy; ;Dy;
Then prepare for the FUN!:naughty: :thumbup:

There is a posiblity that I would come down for a day, its either this or a mtn bike ride. Sounds like Sunday would be better since others are doing the same on Sun.
From southern Phoenix area (Chandler/Gilbert) it sounds like it will take about 2.5 hrs to reach camp, it that correct?
What is the rating on the trails you are running on Sun?

Mapquest seems to think it should take about 2 1/2 hours to get to Redington Road from Scottsdale.

That would be great if you can come Chris! Don't worry, I'm bringing my tow strap, so we can pull that 2WD truck out of anything you get stuck in ;)

Now just to convince the ladies from the City of Angels that they have to come :)

OK, so you were on the Box Caynon trip, I was affraid I would be remembered as the guy that fogot to lock my hubs. I actually did that trail a few weeks back (this time with my hubs locked), there are a few pics here:
Box Caynon (http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB68&Number=360533&Forum=UBB68&Words=represented&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=3months&Main=360451&Search=true#Post360533)

Mapquest seems to think it should take about 2 1/2 hours to get to Redington Road from Scottsdale. OK if mapquest says 2.5 from Scottsdale it is probably actualy more like 2.0 hrs, and since I am 20 - 30 min closer sounds like 2.5 should be plenty of time.

AZPetrak
11/11/2003, 08:45 AM
Well I just remembered that I am getting my garage floor epoxied on Monday, which means I need to pull all of the stuff out of my garage before Monday moring. Might not be able to make it. I would have to pull all my tools, workbench etc. out on Friday and Sat, which means it will all be sitting on the side of my house for several days (and nights).
On the other hand, I would really hate to miss this trip, I really don't get to go wheeling much anymore.

Trails are rated 3-3.5...can be harder with alternate lines:naughty: Should not be a problem. Hope you get the garage cleared and can make it! Would like to see your Rodeo in action with those hubs locked!
