Just wondering if anyone hunts on here? I am a taxidermist and have been for 13 years before joining army. Starting back up and will give great prices to anyone on here.. Also don't forget to put in for your Florida alligator permits. Its free but if drawn $1000 non resident permit..

Yes, that site has been around for a long time. I have bought things from them before. Did you see the episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike went to Skulls Unlimited? Nasty stuff. I do like to look at skulls, but you taxidermist guys who mess around with carcasses all the time must have no sense of smell and really strong stomachs!!! I've prepared a few skulls myself, back in the day, and neat as I think they are, I really DO NOT enjoy the process.

Skulls unlimited is a great place to buy stuff. I use dermistide beetles which cleans skulls perfectly compared to boiling and scraping..

A flesh eating beetle? I can't even fathom -- I have a completely illogical fear of beetles and stinkbugs, so just reading this makes my skin crawl. Do they bite people and other living things? Or do they only eat dead things? ;ooy;

Saw an interesting show on the Smithsonian channel a while back. They use them too.

No, the beatles they use don't go for living flesh, only dead tissue. It takes them weeks to strip a carcass so living things probably wouldn't sit still long enough for them to be interested.

Hell yeah...:yesgray:

Let our little friends do the dirty work.

We used to put a bottomless 5 gal plastic bucket full of sand on an ant hill, & bury whatever needed "de-meat'n" a couple inches deep.

Good call. Though I made the mistake of googleing photos of the things and now I'll probably have nightmares. ;eeky; Although...there were some photos of really cool skeletons as the product of the process.

I've only used maceration and natural decay, which is unpleasant and messy.

And for the record, I personally prefer my animals alive over dead. I'm not a fan of trophy hunting really. Hunting to eat, playing by the rules, I have no problem with. But killing just to kill is putting unnecessary pressure on wildlife, just to hang it on your wall. I am not a fan off that thought process. Not trying to make a debate, just thought I needed to say that here.

Most the skulls I have acquired were either found or processed from road kill. I will admit though that I have a few that I acquired when I was younger that were likely a result of hunting. I try to stay away from that industry nowadays though. Not trying to start a debate, just don't want my stance confused. I only shoot animals with my Nikon. :yesgray:

For the record, I have nothing against hunters who respect the land, the animals and the law. Its the poachers and idiots who kill just to kill that urk me.

Anyway, skulls are cool. A few years back I bought a human specimen from the Bone Room in Berkeley. I would like to acquire another.

No, its legal to own human bones and skulls, it all depends on how they were acquired, but believe you me, that receipt is in my safe.

And that's all good! I'm with ya! I've eaten venison and pheasant, and LOVE fishing and eating trout.

Here's an example of what I don't like:

1) "OMG, there's a rattlesnake!!!" BLAM!

2) "He dude, lets go out and shoot us some coyotes"

3) "RABBIT! Its coming right for us!" BLAM!

Its the needlessness of some of it. I understand, you have a venomous snake in your yard, most folks get out a spade. But why kill it? Relocate it instead.

And unless you have a chicken coupe, I really don't understand the "varmint" thing...coyotes and rabbits are part of the ecosystem, just like rattlesnakes. People are the ones making a mess, not them.

Anyway, fishing season is about to start for me!

Good idea on relocating snakes. Just chuck the venomous snake on your neighbors front porch; ring their doorbell, and vacate. Then grab your video camera and let the fun begin!!!

When it comes to fishing on my boat-- I just use C4 explosive with a waterproof fuse tied to a rock. Then just use a net to scoop up the big ones. No pole, no bait, no wait. Sure; the eyes are bugged-out, but the meat is still good.

Uh Oh Allow me to get my Wyoming on... For the most part, I have only shot that which was to be eaten. ...However, I have blasted apart some prairie dog towns. Not debating either... I apply very little thought to the legs of larger animals that could be broken by excessive prairie dog holes in grazing lands. The natural predators of the prairie have been mostly run off; the black-footed ferret was even believed to be extinct. Prairie dogs though have been left alone to thrive in large and expanding numbers. Ranchers and their friends aim to protect their stock... however... I mainly found it to be fun practice in order to take on big game. :yeso:

I have a 3/4 curl, big horn sheep hanging in my living room and "the first kill" (antelope antlers) in the coat closet... my dad though has a "lovely room of death"... ok, two rooms. :p

A Menace skull would be cool but I just couldn't do that to him...

You have to keep varmints and predators in check. I love having animals on walls. I like nature scenes compared to just head mounts. Good job on the ram. I have a couple full curls from Alaska. Best hunt ever been on and best eating..:bwgy:

My dad lucked out in Wyo and was drawn 3 consecutive times for big horn. I'm with you, that was also my greatest hunt and the greatest meat. We had to ride horseback 20 miles in the high country to get to this forgotten area after the mountainside trail washed out years before. It was like fourwheeling Cliffhanger with unpredictable horses and whips! That ram supplied my meaty feasts during the college years and supplied great satisfaction at each meal! Since my dad has so many rams he has hoofs turned into ash trays, desk lamps, and thermometers. Plus we saved the scrotum sacks! LOL

Boarzhead,

Have you tried mixing both of your occupations?
Do a carbonfiber dip/wrap on a skull!

Ohhh.. that'd be a cool hood ornament!
LOL

figured I'd add a skull to this thread.....
Our dog brought this home one day a few months ago....looks like a Javelina's lower jaw to us. Must have been out there a long long time, as it was so bleached white. We keep telling her to bring us the rest of it...but she hasn't.
When gergmon (Greg) was here a few weeks ago applying the Showroom New, 2 Javelina started running back and forth around in my neighbors yard, couldn't figure out how to get "out". Kept slamming into the fence in a panic to escape. Greg was able to get a side gate open in their fence, and they finally got out through there.
