I bought a 30 day unlimited number of AutoCheck reports yesterday. Needed to see if my Lexus accident was on it...it is.... oh joy :rollo:..... can you say DV Mr. Cab company? Got the unlimited # for a few bucks more so we could look up some of our past vehicles.

If anybody needs/wants me to run a VIN send me AN EMAIL. PM fills up too fast.

IIRC it's not good practice to put a VIN on a public forum. So I believe email is a safer idea. (am I correct on that?...anybody??)

Sue - I will be sending you the 80 or so Foxfire VINs I've collected over the last several months. Sure you don't want me to help? ;)

Sue - shoot me the log-in info via PM when you get a sec. I'm on travel so I'll have a lot of time tonight to plug VINs. Do you know if more than one user can log in at one time? Might be good for you and Dave to try it out before we lock out your account.

Good idea, will have Dave try it from his computer....
Also, PM sent.

update- it worked fine with Dave logging in, and also worked when both he and I were logged in.

x2 :) Only got a CarFax on my VX since I bought it before we learned the hard way that it's a total POS. Honestly I've been hesitant to run my AutoCheck because I was just sure that I would find something (no real reason to suspect it, just figured it was my luck). It was great to come up clean!

Thanks again Sue, now time to start running the other 78 Foxfire VINs. :D

Great to have this and the Carfax that I ran when I purchased the VX. Gives me a well-rounded picture of the vehicle history.

It's available until 5/10 so I'll keep bumping this thread so anybody interested can contact me.

I got what I needed to know out of it....the jerk cabbie that hit me in Las Vegas is there. :_brickwal
Thanks to you Ashley (and your posts about your frame damage problem on the Honda) I've learned more about these reports......just because something's not listed, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.....(negative evidence)

Yea unfortunately things dont always show up. The report you ran for me on Allisons civic (thank you!) didn't show 2 different accidents, one of which did 8k of damage

Patrick never got me the VIN. He got back to me twice saying he'd get it for me. He may know there's something in a CarFax that would prevent a sale?

Maybe someone else wants to ask him for the VIN. I have a feeling it's a real interesting report. :yesy:
Knowing Patrick the way we do, how could it not be? ;Dy;

It is only dependent if it is reported by the insurance companies, correct? If you pay out of pocket for minor or major repairs, that for sure is not going to show.

And sometimes a police report will trigger the alert as well. It basically has to make it into the DMV system for your state or it's not going to show up.

AutoCheck gets its info from the master insurance claim database that all auto carriers use to track accidents, fraud, history of coverage, etc. AC also gets info from each state's DMV on anything that was reported to the police. CarFax gets NO information from that insurance database, and at last check only received info from 30-ish state DMVs. But both do also receive information from dealerships, body shops, emissions testers, etc. The additional insurance database info is what makes AutoCheck a much better bet than CarFax.

That said, lasturbo is correct, if you flip your car over in a field, get Joe Bob to tow it out with his tractor before the police show up, then pay to have it fixed yourself, it likely will never show up on one of these reports unless the guy at the body shop decides to go out of his way to report it.

not even all insurance claims show up on here. Sue ran a report on my lady's civic which was in an accident and repaired through insurance about 2 years ago. didnt show up on the report though

Btw you can't really work based on the scores alone either. Remember how extensive superstang's damage was from his accident? It shows up on his AutoCheck as "Impact to Front Fender" and his score is still higher than mine even though I have less miles and no accident history.

I'd be happy to send you a copy of each report I've run. Would be great if you could put it into some type of database. I've run about 15 VX VINS. Mav plans on doing about 80 that he has.
Or could we just piggyback it onto Mav's database??

No Worries. I can wait

I was mostly trying to kick it out of the Unread Posts, "without unread posts" category

I usually try to "unstick" them with an innocuous on topic post.

It usually works.

Its most irritating to me when the stuck post is mine, and that's only happened once. the grandparent of this one.

I apologize for any offense.

Lol I didn't realize that Sue, I've still got about 30 to go, it takes awhile because I'm annotating in the spreadsheet which VINs are salvaged, have missing AutoCheck records, have been in accidents with frame damage, etc. I'm going back through them today to annotate which ones haven't been registered recently (since that may indicate an unreported total loss).

Interesting reading, I'll post an accounting here and in the Foxfire Check-In thread when I finish.

Btw, although I'm not finished yet I can tell you guys that we're down to no more than 204 Foxfires still operational and still in the US. One went to Russia, another to Belgium, and another to Canada (Hiredgoon). Two were salvaged a few years ago, and one was repainted Chip Foose Pink. That's after running 74 VINs, so extrapolate that out and there's a good chance that we're down to maybe 192. I'll post final tallies here when I run the last 5 VINs.

There are several that haven't been registered in more than a year so there may be more that are now out of circulation. Hard to tell how many though, since many states (VA included) allow you to register for two years. Not to mention that if you total your VX but have it towed to your house and never report the accident AutoCheck will never know that it's gone.
