Hey, the time to invest in a scooter or a cheap-o car is here. Something that gets very cheap Gas prices on a full fill, because I will tell you all this, I will rather paddle a canoe on a highway then get ride of my VX. :bgwo:

Yup, paid $3.59 yesterday for 89. Soooo glad we're not going to Wisconsin this summer. Feel bad for everybody heading out to Moab (for gas at least).

what is the good of owning the VX if you leave it parked and drive a scooter? Drive less, car pool, keep it tuned up sure but leave it parked? never

Heck switch to a cheaper beer

I just bought the wife a 35 mpg car if I get 15 mpg with the vx, then that means we get 25 mpg each right?

Gill and I convoyed BOTH our VXes to Moab in 2008... Gas was in the high $4 range. We paid around $700 round trip EACH! That's $1,400 for our household, just to go... It was SOOOOOO worth it!

My dad takes a Go-Ped to work everyday to avoid putting miles on the VX. He even takes the Go-Ped in the rain so the VX doesn't get dirty. He even bought a second Go-Ped with a seat to give his knees a break. The Go-Ped is gas powered and he gets close to 100 mpg! And you don't need a motorcycle license for it!

I drive our diesel Jetta allot more these days It's really been a great car now has 125000mi on it. Gas has hit 4.25 a gallon here on the Big Island diesel is more but at least the jetta gets 40-45mi a gallon Still have to drive the VX for fun tho, some things are just worth it By the way has anyone seen the latest pictures of our volcano and new lava flow? very cool :flame:

Filled up the other day in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.
Sam's Club $ 3.39 a gallon. Now I see the prices over $ 3.50 in just a few days and no end in sight. I have been driving my Isuzu Rodeo Sport and keeping the VX in the garage. I love both cars but with the price of gas might have to look for something with more MPG.

For me, being a gas mizer with my daily driver has been a way of life ever since gas went over the $4 mark the first time some years ago.

My daily driver is a 1980 Ford Fiesta (41 MPG), and my wifey's is a 1991 Ford Festiva (41 MPG). We use the VX for special road trips, a jaunt off-road or when the roads turn bad with snow & ice.

One of the best gas mizer vehicles ever produced was the infamous Honda CRX-HF that got well over 50+ MPG. They seemed to run on gas vapor by sniffing the fumes. Yup, now's the time to buy a cheapo gas mizer car for a DD and only use the VX for pleasure outings.

I would love to drive the VX every day, but now the pocket is running empty faster cuz of gas it hit 3.69 here in New Smyrna Beach. Will never give her up, but I'm not rich "yet". So a little beater on the way real soon. Been looking at VW Rabbits, Honda CRXs, Datsuns, pretty much anything not build past 1989 and not domestic. little import 4 bangers is in my cross hairs. :bgwo:

Every couple of years I think of getting a scooter, but I know me.It would always be too cold or hot or raining.:bgwb:

JAMAS

I drive my VX every day that its not 70+ and sunny and only fill up every other week. I live less than 10 miles from my work, so the rise in gas prices doesnt affect me too much.

I drive the VX in the winter/cold weather and when its rainy
I drive a 2007 yamaha R6 when its mild in the morning and warm in the afternoon. And on days when I dont have to drop off or pickup my Son from daycare.
I drive a 2003 Mitsu Spyder GT when its above 50 and sunny. I even added a car seat so I could drive it on daycare days.

I have a wierd matrix on the fridge to help remember what days to take what vehicle...(kidding)

By spreading my drive time across 3 vehicles, I can go upwards of a month before I need to fill up. The downside is, I then fill up 3 at once.

im planning on getting a Kawasaki Ninja in june to battle the gas prices or I might go for a honda del sol or something of the type. I dont know what I should go for Ninja for fun and great gas mileage but impractical. Or the small slow beater car for MPG's and practicality without the fun =/

I have a Honda del Sol. Fun little car.

I get 30+ mpg, all the time. The only problem is it has a small gas tank, so it's not that long between fill-ups, at least not longer than most other cars.

I also have Volvo S-80 that consistently get 20-23 mpg. Great for such a large car. It has a ginormous gas tank (20 gal. +). I can got over 500 highway miles on a fill up.

i've got a yamaha zuma, 95 mpg.

has 3000 miles on it (1000 of which are my own) and i drive it all summer long. You would be amazed that it takes me the same, if not less time to get to my destination.

in fact i spent last weekend tearing apart the carb and re-jetting it so that its ready to go for the summer..... runs like a top :naughty:

i drive 15-18 miles every day and i plan on starting to drive the Zuma wednesday :)
Great little toy, and for very little $ you can up the speed a lot. (i plan on installing a different clutch, new jets, new intake and maybe changing out the gearing- which should put me at about 45 mph top speed)

i really recommend one, (as long as you dont have much pride left). Mine has a stereo system and security system as well. the security is mostly to make people laugh, and the stereo provides great entertainment as well.

I paid $3.90 a gallon for 89 octane this weekend at the beach. And it's not even "the season" yet. :(

Even still, CR makes a good point. At least we don't have to buy our "petrol" in the UK.

Interesting rig, I'm going to have to look into those, for curiosity if nothing else.

I already have a Yamaha TW200 that would serve around town...really got it for riding in the woods up at the lake cabin, but it is street legal and will get 70 mpg.

Depends on whether he was pre-translating the cost to USD or simply stating it in pounds. He did use the "$" symbol so it might truly be $8.50 USD.

lol, the cost of a litre of fuel here is £1.35 . Our gallon's are bigger than yours, so i calculated the cost in pounds of a US gallon and then converted it at www.xe.com

Why do you think i use this most days!!

Cute 3-wheeler Crotch. Since you made it a WWII U.S. Army version with the white Star, you should finish it out with some fictious white "registration numbers". Just look at some vintage pictures of WWII trikes for some ideas and proper placement.

Your trike would also look great as a WWII German Army version with a Maltese Cross, much like the one in the movie "The Great Escape" starring Steve McQueen. Or you could go all the way with the Nazi Swasticker and SS Stormtrooper emblems. However, the Nazi-SS version may not sit well within such a refined society as we have today. Although, L-Dub could probably get away with it in Siberia USA (aka North Dakota).

Yeah, its my 3rd R6.

The blue one behind that one, WAS mine, but I sold it to a buddy.

Then I bought a brand new 2006 R6 (Raven black) and totaled it (cold tires and gravel do NOT mix).

Then I bought a brand new 2007 R6

I really like the newer 2 over the first one that I had. Its alot sportier. Fly by wire controls and better fuel management. Although my Wife complains that the passenger seat was better on the old blue one. Then again, once she became a Mother, she is no longer a rider.

How'd that go? Get hurt?

I was turning at a stop sign. Slowed down and was only moving fast enough to keep my balance. Turned right and the wheel kicked out from under me and then snapped back throwing me over the handle bars. The torque of the handle bars yanked my shoulder out and left me with a separated shoulder. It was that same torque that left a dimple in my frame. That dimple caused Progressive Insurance to total my bike. Total vs. repair was $400 and they wouldnt let me pay the difference. I now have Allstate insurance.

I always wear a padded jacket, helmet and gloves. All of which I believe helped reduce the damage that was done to my body. My gloves were all tore up and my helmet had some dings.

You guys have always had considerably cheaper gas than we do in Canada--where I live, one of the cheaper places I've found, it's sitting at $1.099/L. That works out to about $4.16/gal. My family pays closer to $5. That's for regular, not premium. I'm always stunned at how cheap it is to drive south of the border.

I went to the very last drop of gas left in my tank, hoping that the rediculous gas price(CAN$1.159/USD$4.41) in calgary would have dropped to a normal resonable level. I ended up having to fill up in Canmore at $95.00

I fill in Drumheller, where it's typically around $1.059, but gets as high as $1.159 depending on God only knows what. I suspect that driving that far will negate the money you are saving on fuel. It's worth buying a Costco card to buy gas there though, it's typically 3-5 cents cheaper per litre.

Well, sold my "scoot" a few years ago (not feeling as invulnerable as I did in my halcyon days) so that option is out. However, back in July I purchased a '93 Suzuki Swift (Geo Metro is its rebadged twin) to combat gas prices and ease my commute costs. After working out some minor transmission gremlins its good to go. Searched a while to find one without major front end rust issues and low miles (66,000 on the clock). Upgraded the stereo, added a few interior cosmetic options, some decent custon wheels apprporiated from my recently deceased '83 Dodge Colt and .... VOILA! Instant econ-tin can. Hey! For forty plus miles to the gallon I don't complain. :p
