I'm sorry to ask such a silly question....but could someone please tell me what this "Moab" thing is? I just bought a VX 3 days ago and seriously look forward to meeting other enthusiasts and learning more about the "obsession".

It is the greatest thing on earth!:bwgy:
Okay, so actually it is a gathering of Isuzu enthusiests that enjoy good company and fun offroad trips in Moab, Utah.
Here are a few threads to paruse that might give you an idea...

The best I can do, is reiterate a long ago thread that I started...it's all about what Moab means to me, and to many of the others whom I have become as close to as any bio brothers &/or sisters I was born to...:yesgray:

You can't possibly imagine...till you've experienced that which we call "ZuZoo"...

Meow, you won't need to worry about finding the right line. Just find someone that is similarly equiped and follow them. Some hood examples are Sue (VX Kat), Mark (MSHardeman), or Scott (Moncha...aka the boss man). They all have fun on the trail but tend to be a little saner in choosing their lines. Also at any point if you don't feel comfortably just give a holler amd there are many of uw that will be more than happy to spot you through a difficult spot. You will be amazed at what even a bone stock VX is capable of!

Yup! I stick real tight to Mark and Scott's rear end,http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/laughing/lol-049.gif (http://freesmileyface.net/free-laughing-smileys.html) both are excellent spotters!
Although all 3 of us do have slightly larger than stock tires, so we have a wee bit more clearance. I believe mine was about 1 1/4" higher with my 285s. The first year as fully stock, I did get some scrapes both front and rear, so ya gotta keep in mind that Billy's idea of difficulty :freek: and normal people's are vastly different. This is a "bumpy" road for Billy....http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/DSC_6147.JPG

Lol...good work VT; I ought to get plenty of responses now, lol. Can't help my lengthy posts sometimes -- I'm a writer. I like to write stuff, anything; sometimes too much stuff. Though I'll try to mind my gigantic paragraphs of complete BS from now on... :laughy:

Thanks everyone for the comforting words, I was already feeling mild anxiety about going offroad, though I feel somewhat better now, lol. If others can do it in a stock VX, I can do it in a stock VX ;Dy;

...I will definitely be there for the mass VX run on the 17th. I'll probably leave Vegas the evening of the 16th, and Moab isn't a far drive.

Lol at your representations of yourself and other forum people Dub; I especially like that little dancing banana. I can't wait until I can legitimately use that thing in a post one day...that will be a satisfactory day.

In all fairness though Billy, sometimes no line can overcome gravity....this is the one that flattened my bull bar tubing and scratched the rear cladding coming out of it...two years in a row.....but I'm ready for her this year...no bull bar, and a superbumper on the back! Seriously MeowMix, the pic doesn't do it justice...full brakes applied and you still skid down this hill, and plow into the rock, it's awesome! This was my first year, all stock. Really? You just have spare springs laying around? I thought there was more to lifting than springs. I'm used to lowering...know all about it. MeowMix, like others have said (thanks Billy) I tend to drive like a little 'ol grandma going to church on Sunday when I'm offroad. I DO NOT want to scratch my baby, but it does happen. Vicki (my VX) does have a few trail scar's that she wears with pride (chicks with scar's are HOT). I am lifted, but I still take my sweet time over most obstacles. Don't let the pictures of the terrain out there spook you, although I have to say that at the beginning of the first trail every year, my knees are usually knocking, but once I get back into it it's just so dang much fun. Also, like others have said, you will be amazed at what a bone stock VX can do as long as you TRUST YOUR SPOTTERS. They are outside the car and can see things that you can't so even if it doesn't look right from inside the VX it IS right so just go for it......slowly. Go easy on the skinny pedal AND the brake pedal.

Oddly enough I WILL be in Vegas from May 12th - 15th for a soccer tournament. I won't be driving the VX out, but if you want to meet up for some debauchery then the team I play with is the one you want to hang out with. OOF!! I'll be heading back to Grand Junction, CO to drop off the rental car and pick up the VX, then head right back to Moab LATE Sunday night/ early Monday morning. You can follow me to the Moab turn off if you would like on Sunday afternoon.

After VTMav's editing of your post I'm a little reluctant to post this, but I have a room at The Stoop (The Red Rocks Lodge) that you are welcome to crash in (I'm a total gentleman......I promise). Actually since I won't be there until so late Sunday night you are more than welcome to check in early if you would like a place to take a nap, grab a shower, or sleep off anything that might happen on The Stoop on Sunday afternoon. I can let the Red Rocks know that you will be checking in ahead of me, and it will allow me to make sure that the room is open when I get there. Last year I pulled into town at 1am and there was no key on the front door of the Lodge so I had to wake some poor sap up to let me into my room.

NOW who's writing a novel?

Hi meowMix...

here is the PM I sent you.

I'll post it here too..so that others can chime in if I forgot anything....

=====

Hiya

Its really fairly easy, and as you can see from the pics put up...it can be done at the Red Rock Motel "Stoop"

The basics are..

1) Jack up rear of VX, take out standard springs, put in the 912 after market springs....not a huge job.
This will lift the back by about 2.5 inches

2) Index mark the torsion bar adjuster bolts, crank on them equally using the index marks as a reference....
...keep cranking until desired lift of front is achieved.

3) Book the Vx into a local tire store and get an alignment done.

Thats about it!

If you are going to do this, a good plan is to start spraying your torsion bar bolts with anti-seize NOW, and a few times before you arrive in Moab.

As for the effect on other parts, experiences vary.
The only real issue has been CV boots tearing. This happens because the boots become accustomed to a set angle, and the lifting stresses them.
It does not happen all the time.

Cost wise...About $150 (springs) plus the alignment charge.

Hope this helps. I will be bringing the springs anyway...
...so you don't have to decide until you get to Moab ... but do spray the T/Bolts just in case!

I'll post this on the thread too...so if I have forgotten anything others can chime in.

Meowser, since you mentioned you may have tires in need of replacement and that you may be game to lift your VX while in Moab... do it all at once! :) Wear out your current tires on your way to Vegas and into Moab then let the gang at the stoop get you lifted. After that you are free to pick out some larger meats, get an alignment, and we can trim your cladding for you where needed. Hit the trail in style and blow everyone away with your newly fashioned VX when you get back home! :yesy:

BTW, on your way to Vegas if you need a place to crash in Salt Lake lemme know...

Thanks for the advice Mark, and I'm thinking I'll probably follow somewhere closeby where you are on the trails, if not directly behind you, lol. While a small scratch or ding here or there is fun, as then you'll have awesome stories to tell, a whole chunk of cladding torn off is not very much fun.

Oddly enough I WILL be in Vegas from May 12th - 15th for a soccer tournament. It's nice to be on a semester schedule -- nobody else is done with spring term, but I am! Ha.

And yes, those tires of mine still have around 25 or 30% tread, though they're clearly a retread, as you can see where they glued the new tread on...so ugly! My friends that work at Discount tire up here in Spokane are going to give me a hard time, but I should totally invest in tires while I'm in Moab. The last Midwest meet we did Kasia showed up! She hit some rough times VX wise and issues with insignificant other. I won't comment any further on that though. She is doing great with her job and gotten a couple of promotions, I believe. She shared in my woes of missing my Proton and hers...the meet was seriously lacking some color!!! ;) She is driving in her words, "a stupid honda" civic or maybe an accord...I can't remember... She wants to get another trail rig last I heard. We keep in touch with her every now and then, have her over for some Captain Stabbin's and Halo! Well, this happened to us.

With Laura getting the shingles, me have the shoulder operated on and the rehab that follows, we're screwed. We got hit so bad financially, there's no way that we can afford to get there. Along with that, Laura has no time at work as she burned what she had being sick. I'm right in the middle of rehab and with the extra shell out of co-pays, it makes it just that much worse.
It just seems, as of late, someone does not want me to show up in Moab.

So...I might or might not make it to Moab. I got about 2 or 3 miles from the junction where I shift highways and begin to go south rather than east, and my check engine light came on for no apparent reason. She runs fine; no unusual sounds or behavior. She ate about 3/4 quart of oil from Spokane to Missoula, as I've found is usual for highway driving, but that shouldn't effect anything so long as I keep an eye on it and continue to fill her up. So I'm stuck in Butte MT for the night, since there are no auto shops open on Sunday to check my code... :sady:

any local parts store should be able to help you out...doesn't need to be a shop that does repairs.

Check it out and get back on the road...:bgwb::bgwo::smilewink:bwgy:

You go through Denver from Dallas? I would've thought you would come up to Moab from the south...[shrug] whatever works.

Plan is I'll roll into the Dennys at I-70 and Kipling for breakfast at about 9AM on Sunday...yes I've done this trip before :yesgray:

It was great to see everyone this morning for breakfast...almost turned into Brunch huh! (perhaps pbkid can further explain)

Big Swede, Nocturnal VX, CeCe, pbkid and a few guest...

Sorry no pics, but it really did happen...:yesb::yesgray::yesy::yeso:
