SH*T!!!

A white van pulled out from a parking space in front of me this morning and BANG :(

Damage is limited, was only doing about 20 -25mph and my wheel took most of the impact. Cladding is scrapped and and there is a slight kink in the wheel arch which isnt too bad considering but my steering is knackered. Steering wheel is now upside down trying to go in a straigh line. Just waiting for the insurance company to open. :(

Awwwwwww...CRAP...:upsetgray

Sorry to hear about this James...:(

Though it sounds like it should be repairable, it's still a tough pill to swallow.

Chin up Mate, it'll be right as rain in no time...:yesgray:

Buck up Lad, you're a Englishman...:smilewink

Seriously...sorry Mate, prolly a bad time to attempt humor...:flower:

Sorry to hear the sad news, Crotch. No matter how careful you can be, there is sometimes no avoidance because of other's negligence. I hope they get your VX fixed up as good as new. Glad no one was hurt.

Dude, that's hard to hear. From my experience, they'll be able to fix it though.

When I hit with my front wheel, it was just the shaft coming out of the steering box and a slight tweek to the frame arm.

But back to serious, glad yer OK and VX damage is not as bad as it coulda been! I'm seriously beginning to see a REAL benefit in having OFH tires as our buggies age and these things happen....hmmmm, :_thinking:_thinking

Sorry here any VX owner having an accident but even more so if in the UK. Hope the insurance company pays up fully. if they don't, stick in your heels by complaining, they often give a low first offer.

That sucks but it looks like the damage is minimal. Most important is you were not hurt. It could have been a lot worse...it could have been 3 weeks before you were suppose to leave for Moab and undriveable:(

crotchrocket

Nope!!! CV is on the other side, not sure how i can wangle that one !! ?? !!

Thanks for the comments, could have been worse, somehow i managed to get on the horn whilst braking which minimised the damage too

When the van hit you and "pushed you sideways" it must have put some pressure on the CV binding it up and causing it to fail....right?:bwgy:
Just remember it made no klanking noise before the accident.

Thats a bummer James, but thank God for damage limiting cladding eh! Imagine if that was steel!

Think of me though - I let my wife borrow the VX whilst her daily driver was in the shop. In 24 hours she managed to do more damage reversing it onto our drive than I've done in just over a year of off-roading, including sliding sidways into a rocky gulley! :mado:

^^^Rock sliders are your friend!:yesy:

Might pull the cladding panel off and take a heat gun (carefull not to melt it) and a spoon to the inside and persuade it back into shape.

crotchrocket
08/12/2010, 08:22 AM
I am a bit worried about the repair centre, they have managed to run up a £1700 quote for the 'scratches' on the cladding and no mension of the steering problem which in my mind is the most important thing.

I spoke to the insurance and the repairers said ' the steering wheel must have been fitted incorrectly'.....................YEAH! NICE ONE!!!! i've been driving it for two years with the steering wheel upside down and the airbag poised and ready to explode into my nuts

Retards!

tom4bren
08/12/2010, 08:38 AM
Dat sux dude.

My repairs were on the opposite spectrum. I told them that I didn't need the cladding replaced but they considered it required. The only snag on my repair was finding the sector shaft replacement and a fellow member helped out with that.

We want you to get blackie back also. We know that's it's taken the wind out of your sails - you don't post that frequently these days - which I for one miss. Keep with it and keep the faith that when you resolve it your VX will be even more precious to you.

fingers crossed Kirk

That sucks, Keep on them. Car Star did my repairs here in the US They found everything with in a week. The steering parts are common Isuzu used on a variety models. If you can't find them in the UK I'm sure we could fined what you need here.

vt_maverick
10/01/2010, 08:24 AM
Holy crap how could it take this long to get it fixed? It looks like a pretty minor fender-bender to me; what is the insurance company waiting on?

VX KAT
10/01/2010, 08:38 AM
Maybe they're out joy riding in it everyday cuz it's so much fun! :_wtf:
Maybe you should pay a surprise visit and see (if you can) where it is, etc...

crotchrocket
10/01/2010, 09:26 AM
Its because they refused to believe that the damage to the steering happened in the accident, it has taken alot of heated phone calls and 3 repair shops to recognise a problem. I got a call today saying they are finally accepting the steering box needs replacing!!! all the body work is done so fingers crossed i'll be fender deep in mud this time next week :D
