Just curious what gauges everyone has setup on their scangauge II (with X Gauge)

it would be good to make a list of codes/programs that work with the VX and what doesnt. I saw on the planet someone had gotten trans temp to work on an 4L30E in a rodeo, but I cant get it to work on my VX

the gauges I have programmed into mine are

HP
Torque (Doesnt work)
Trans temp (Doesnt work)
Ambient air temp (Doesnt work)
Oil Temp (Doesnt work)
Minutes w/ engine running
Trip Distance (trip function)
Gas (in gallons left.. AWESOME!)
Air/Fuel Ratio

ill write down and post the programming for each one tomorrow or tuesday

In hopes that someone will be able to tell why they don't work like if I have a typo or something

Not sure if i have the X guage, but I usually run MPG, MPH(as i have a KMH speedo) water temp, Volt.

I can get air inlet temp which shouldnt be a million miles off ambient temp when driving along.

I pulled the trigger on one of these yesterday, (Scangauge II)
and all I can say is these should be standard equipment! For ALL cars!

Mine is new so it has the newer firmware.
So far I've adjusted the speed % to within 1mph to the GPS.
I hope to fine tune it more.

Has anyone programed the Transmission temp gauge AND made it work?
I've just added the monster size tranny cooler so I want to monitor temps.
I do tow with mine.

Anyone have some easy mounting locations?
Looks like I'm going to make a bracket mount near the ashtray opening.
I'm not a fan of Velcro tape...

Bulldoggie,

This seemed the popular approach a few years ago:

Thanks Tom, I like the idea of flipping the plug to have it point away.
I didn't get the blendmount? just the velcro.
I'll have to look up the cost of one.
That does look like a good location, I might rethink my location.
I'm going to make the same type of mount out of a piece of Aluminum plate and bending a fold.

Do you have a smart phone?

IIRC there is an ap for that :)

Seriously, other members have had an ap for displaying the ScanGuage readings to their smart phone. In that case, you can mount the guage itself uder the dash & then just use the ciggy lighter adapter for your smart phone.

I use a Military spec flip phone. It's one you can drop in a mud puddle!
The key being that when you do, it still works.

I may upgrade to a iPhone someday, is it an android only? and do you have to buy a wireless or bluetooth adapter?
I do have an iPod touch that runs IOS apps....? Just like a wireless only iPad.

IDK - I sorta rode the technology short bus when it comes to smart phones. My flip phone has the one really cool feature that's really what I need: it makes and receives phone calls.

May wanna PM etlsport on that if you are interested. I seem to remember that he mentioned that he went that route.

Looks like they are $48.99 on amazon

Scangauge II in ashtray opening.
GPS in vent opening.
Taken tonight by my Daughter's smart phone.

I made a bracket out of aluminum plate, sized to fit the ashtray slide bracket, folded to an angle to tilt up slightly, with a hole in the plate for the CAT plug.

My GPS is mounted in the vent opening, after removing the vent I screwed the base with the suction cup rubber removed, to the side of the vent opening.
That way everything can be returned to original without holes.

I'll upload some daylight close ups later....

Is anyone getting trans temps or shifts?

My tires ended up being a 8% speed adjustment to match the GPS speed.

Here is what I used to get the transmission temps to work in my 2000 Trooper. Don't see why it wouldn't work for an auto VX.

TXD: 6C10F1221940(01) RXF: 046205190640 RXD: 3008 MTH: 00090005FFD8

I just used the velcro mounts and put mine on the steering column.

Thanks, Those are the numbers I was going to try from their web site.
I was worried that I would be wasting my time.
The first post, says it didn't work for him, but that was an older post.
I'll enter it tomorrow and report back.

Looks like the home button is hard to use.
My steering wheel looks to be tilted higher. I don't think I have as much space there? It is good to keep it in your line of sight.
The mirror mount looks good for many reasons too, but with my head close to the roof, I have my mirror pushed up as close to the roof as it will go, and I still don't like how much the mirror and A pillars block my road vision.

I'm Happy with my location. it looks better than the picture.
I didn't take the time to fine tune the velcro before taking the picture.
Since I pulled it out for the other pictures.
It was very easy to make my mount. Maybe 20 minutes tops.

K.I.S.S. ?

I have a long road trip planned next week. About 600 miles. With the new tranny cooler, I'm looking forward to monitoring the temp.

I tried those Transmission temp gauge settings with and without the (01) in the number.
Not working for me :(
I was hoping to get some transmission live monitoring, I guess it's not going to happen.

I'm reading
speed MPH
volts
GPM
water temp

I tried the Transmission Temp code and it didn't work for me either. :(

On the same subject....

For those who have an older Scangauge II, you can send it back to the company and they will flash the memory to add more features (see THIS THREAD (http://www.vehicross.info/forums/showthread.php?t=20719) for an overview.) Last year the cost was about $25 + shipping but I never got around to doing it. (Hmmm, I wonder what version etlsport is using?)

Here are some photos of my no-cost / minimal-effort installation. It doesn't look awesome, but it NEVER moves around at all while I'm driving, either.

Scangauge II plugged into ODBII port with the wire loosely routed up and over the top of the steering column...
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7116/7007381219_e2cc0719a8.jpg

The wire then extends to the right where the extra length is wadded up and stuffed into the ashtray...
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7262/7007381193_3d21b50f87.jpg

And finally it comes back up where - without any form of adhesive - the actual Scanguage rests in the instrument bezel. The wire is stiff enough that it's held in place securely.
It doesn't look all that great in this photo partially because I didn't straighten it up after pulling it out when programming the Trans Temp code. Sorry... I was getting a little light-headed after running the engine in the enclosed garage, the exhaust fumes became pretty thick and then the Care Bears came in and were trying to sell me a timeshare in Peru. Jerks. I think it was the greeen and oorange Caare Bearrs but I'm not 100% ssure - those could havvve been the dash lights? I feeel funnny.

:) I have GOT to get off my lazy backside and try to install the gizmo that may make the speedometer/odometer/shift points to compensate for my oversized tires. Heck, I've only had it since... (mumble mumble, AUGUST!) That's the main reason I've kept the SGII plugged in 24/7.

Tone Monday; used to sell a speedo correction unit that had a series of Dip switches to correct the signal to the electronic speedometer.
I thought about getting one, just for correcting the shift points for tire size.
Many members have purchased these, I'm sure someone will add the links.

You bet! :) It's the Yellow Box Speedometer Recalibrator (http://www.yellr.com/index.htm). I've hesitated to mention it before because it's never been confirmed to work on a VX by the manufacturer so I don't know if it actually might work of if I simply threw away $100. My research leads me to believe that it was designed to work primarily for motorcycles, but it also works for certain cars/trucks that use a "hall-effect type" speed sensor. After tons of reading, I think it *may* have a good chance of working on the VX due to my research on Tone's (RIP) recalibrator. Heck, I even have ALL the wiring mapped out already and have instructions that I converted into PDF form - I just haven't made the time to try it. Shame on me - I even forgot this was on my list of "things to do." I'll try to install it ASAP - hopefully this weekend now that I've remembered it.

My biggest interest - doing the math to adjust my "real" speed is pretty easy since the speedometer is exactly 10% off. But I do think I'd benefit from having the shift points back. I hope I pick up a little MPG since my VX would shift up to 4th gear a little earlier around the 40 MPH mark.
