I have a Proton, and I'm changing it to black. I'm tired of hearing, "awww your cars so cute!" Don't worry I'm doing a auto wrap so we wont lose a proton. I'm going with a flat black wrap, and i was thinking of having some ghost skulls. (gloss black skulls on flat black background). If anyone is good a photo shop and can send me some ideas it would be a huge help.

Oh, i just ordered theses rims...

Sry mate, you'll still get remarks in ebony too. Except the majority of the time, mine is simply labeled "ugly tennis shoe". Can change the color, but not the physique.

FlyingV77, where were you last week? We had a Dallas meet, and it would have been good to meet you.
Peace.

Paint idea ... Don't

Just get vanity plates that read:

NOT CUTE

If you absolutely must have skulls on the VX, a skin on the hood insert is a better option

IMHO:)

and by a black one, it will be cheaper. If you insist on skulls and such sell it and by a Honda.

No offense trying to be funny but I always upset somebody.

Not painting, doing a vinal wrap. So i can keep it yellow if i change my mind.

I wanted a ebony (proton was a close second) but when i was looking the only black one with the grey interior available was $5,600 more than i paid for the one i got, and it had more miles.

I'm not 100% set on having the skulls just an idea, and wanted to see if we as a group could come up with some good ideas. not looking to cover the whole car, just in a couple well placed spots. Maybe like this.

like circmand, I was just trying to be funny ... but after due consideration, I'm starting to like that vanity plate idea.

lol i know you were kidding, just wanted to clarify. some folks at work have asked why i dont paint it too. i figure future resale would be safe if i wrapped it.

my opinion....

Embrace the uniqueness of the vehicle. Add black to the existing yellow to give it some edginess. black racing stripes has been done with great success....perhaps some other vinyl work (not a wrap). Black rims, tinted windows....black hood insert....pretty sweet ride.....

or, follow me here, 2-tone! Wrap or paint it matte black (make it match the cladding) up to just before the windows, then do a silver or pearl blue pinstripe with maybe a design with it to break up the 2 colors and have yellow on top with the black hood insetr. I think that would look pretty slick. Something like this:

(bow at my awesome Paint skills lol, picture the grey area the same color as the cladding)

With maybe a design like this:

ive always liked the third one with the skidplate and black stripes. but dont want to be a copy cat. my first idea; all black with yellow grand sport stripes on the fender.

I'd say if you really want to paint it, go with something unique like blue, gunmetal grey, ect. OR I like the custom paint idea. Buying an ebony would make much more sense if your looking for a black VX. You might even make a little money selling yours and buying an ebony as the Protons seem to sell for highest price. Personally I love the rims... love them so much that I have them on my VX.

You don't need paint...you need big freakin tires, a lift and some off road battle scars!:smack::bwgy:

By all means lift it, get some mean rims and tires.

If yer thinking about a wrap, nothing is more cool than this kinda Warbird wrap.
IMHO... a bit over the top, but yeah, I'd do it.

Wraps are cool, but the going rate is about 3k plus install. You could put ghost flames in chamelon dupont and have 2000 left over. I second the lift, get some black wheels and maybe put a .50 cal mounted on each front fender (ala batmoble).

Should bump up the testosterone meter! Tell the INS it's a border patrol vehicle:bgwo:

Sounds like you're very fortunate at work, and some of the girls are just talkin' about your Proton in an effort to flirt with you. Same theory as walking your dog in a city park-- "Oh my, what a cute doggy you have there (giggle-giggle)". The girls probably really don't care about the Proton or if it was Ebony or any other color, but are more interested in YOU for other reasons (hmmm, time to ponder).:bgwb:

I concur with Tom4Bren, and just get a coy Vanity Plate that reads "FOR HIRE" or "TX TAXI" perhaps. If you still wanted a different paint scheme on a Proton-- how 'bout Urban Camoflage in the Yellow Version format. Now that would be both cool & macho at the same time.:yeso:

Go ahead and do the wrap I am interested in how it will turn out, but please do not do the "trendy" skulls thing, please, just mean flat black, do the skulls in something that is cheaper and less permenant. Sounds good can't wait to see the end result.

Oh and the easiest way to get a meaner looking VX is to do the easy $200 suspension lift and buy some larger tires.

haha.. JAMAS used mine as an example :bgwo: nice
if someone else is paying for it by all means go for it (and let the proton shine through the eye sockets :p)

Riff will remember this, but when I got my VX, Proton was the last color on my list of preferences. Now I can't imagine having any other color. I will admit that the wife and I have tossed around the idea of flat army green or maybe a flat deep charcoal. I have enough pin stripes, and as Billy mentioned, "battle scars" that it just isn't worth waxing anymore. Of course, mine is becoming more and more trail rig, so I have my own destiny to follow....(enter star wars theme or some other epic theme music)
Sorry Dub, but IMHO I think skulls are tacky, like weekend Harley riders and their bandannas and leathers. Come up with your own unique design. Think of something original...maybe go the current "urban" route and make it a Honey Nut Cheerios VX:) Not sure if ya'll have that goin round where you are, but the thing that "urban" crowd is doing is putting Caprices and Crown Vics on 26" wheels, lifting em, and then decorating them with various brands. In my area I have seen John Deere, Skittles, Star Burst, Coke Zero, Sprite, Lucky Charms, Fruity Pebbles, Gary Coleman(RIP) and a handful of sports teams. These aren't cheap spray paint jobs, these are complete decal kits and nice paint. The rims alone cost more than the car, I don't even want to know what the paint and decals cost.

No matter what, its your VX, just remember that the proton is one of 479 ever made!!!! Who cares what strippers say, or anyone else for that matter. Do what makes you happy:luck:

I really don't consider you the arbiter of style, good taste, or tacky...

I was gonna link to a pic of that SWEET bumper you made as an example, but it seems you've removed all the pics (evidence) from your gallery...:_thinking...:rolleyesg

Since it was indelibly emblazoned into the minds of most who will read this, it matters not, since what has been seen can never be unseen...

Wow, it looks like "Motto Metal 909 Frenzy" among VXers... I have a set of those in R20 sitting in my garage too...
As to the topic - maybe a couple of links from Mother Russia will give you fresh ideas.. ;)

Since you work with a bunch of female dancers, are you gonna' have a stripper pole in your new house???

Guy: Here little girl-- I've got some hard candy for you.
Girl: Wait a minute, that ain't candy!!!
Guy: No, but it's hard.

A quick idea....

Use the yellow as an accent color. Along the sides, leave a 3/4"-1" border of yellow showing. It would give some definition from the cladding and the door glass.
Since the hood already has some matte black, keep the design in the insert.

See... there ARE people on this site with open minds for custom work. If you conform to their stalled thinking nothing new would ever show up.

HAH! I KNEW I'd read something recently about a VX being referred to as "cute."

Friday, the first day I drove mine to work, I got SIX "cutes." (grumble, grumble)

But that was offset by stranger asking me what year it was and 3 other coworkers who were shocked because they thought I had traded my beloved Mustang in for a "new" SUV. NOBODY could believe it was a 2001!

LOL, I had some kid convinced that mine was a test platform for the manned mission to mars...then he looked underneath and saw the rust.:bgwb:

That's not the vehicle rusting, it had simply been tested in a controlled, iron oxide-rich environment just like Mars. It's nothing more than test platform dust! ;)

That's so cool! I forgot to mention the stranger who asked the year most likely knew about VXs. We were about 30' apart in a parking lot but I could swear he said, "SEE!" before he punched his buddy in the shoulder when I told him the year.

Oh yeah, the day I was driving it home, I wasn't even out of Dallas when I noticed a couple in my side view mirror checking it out, pointing and talking. I wondered if they knew what it was, too, and were surprised to see it. Or maybe they just liked it. :)
