My VX was rear-ended by an old fool in a Jeep Grand Cherokee last Monday. So far our body shop has only been able to locate 3 of 9 parts needed for the repair. But then they've limited their search to dealers in the state of PA. The insurance company says they've called Isuzu but Isuzu won't call back--big surprise.

I've given our body shop the contact info for St. Charles Isuzu.

Any other options/suggestions for tracking down the following parts?

R Quarter Wheelhouse Protector 8-97207-716-0
Rear Gate Shell 8-97217-314-0
Rear Gate Strap & Link 8-97247-589-0
Rear Gate Cover 8-97144-090-4
Rear Gate Decal 2-90042-921-0
Rear Gate Decal 8-97224-577-0
Rear Gate Decal 2-90042-924-0
Rear Bumper Cover Assy 8-97217-303-0
Rear Bumper Reinforcement 8-97161-181-3

Thanks!

Lisa,

I'm not sure that the insurance company can purchase replacement parts from an individual (liability thang). I rekin you could sell the parts to the shop that is performing the repair and they could in tern sell them to the insurance company.

Tom

BTW hamilcar, go to the download section on the home page. Open the shop manual and find all the parts you listed, print it out and circle the parts you need for Lisa. The descriptions listed can be confusing without pictures.

Dave, You are doing the right thing by getting involved with the parts acquisition yourself. The previous owner of my VX sat by and watched his insurance company total the rig and all that was damaged was 2 pieces of cladding the rear axle housing and one wheel. The parts were not readily available on the first phone call so it went the way of "REBUILT TITLE". Don't let it happen to you even if you have to tell your repair shop to standby till you get the parts and then sign a waiver with the insurance co. Give these guys a try they did great by me. Good prices and on the ball.

@ etslport: getting it repaired at K's Kollision in Coatesville. They were recommended by the mechanics we've used for years. I'll see if I can find the thread you mentioned.

@ Tom: thanks for the tip for identifying parts thru the manual

There's 2 rear doors with cladding on ebay (in MN)....don't know if your insurance would ever dare allow that...maybe with the waiver suggested...

What's the total on what this body shop might charge? This suggestion is for the extremely lucky chance that somebody with front end damage wants to sell their vx whole to replace the vehicle. Can't remember when I saw it (~a month ago), but there was a kaiser vx in Gainsville tx for 4000. It had a dirty history with odometer issues. Might be cheaper to buy a spare and do it yourself if it all parts. Then you can nickel and dime the rest of us like the greedy vultures we are.

While on the subject of bodies... I've been thinking about making molds of the cladding in ABS for replacement parts. Anyone interested?

At least this is what I'd do if I were in the same postion. If it gets totalled out buy it back and make a sweet off-road rig out of it, no doors and a solid front axle. Then buy another VX or whatever to drive. That's where mine is headin whether it gets wrecked or not. Just my $.02

4 weeks later and the body shop still doesn't have all the parts. he's insisting he go thru isuzu...seems concerned about the insurance company warranty-ing the parts. I know if he went thru all the other sources you all sent that we'd be on our way to being done--strike that...my green dragon would be done by now. i'll be calling the insurance company this week to see what we can work out on this.

why don't you just get the salvage title and the money coming to you and have the repair work done yourself?
