this nice weather is killing me! i cant stop modding, albeit little things, they make the VX more up to date on the interior

newest addition....

overhead console with 2 map lights and a storage compartment

http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/medium/dome_light_001.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=17524)

I pulled it from a 2003 hyundai elantra (SHHH! dont tell anyone!)

it was not a great fit at first, theres a roof support beam across the top of the windshield that prevented it from fitting all the way which scared the crap out of me, since id already cut a monster hole in my headliner

after some trimming of the console, it is a very nice fit, anyone looking to do this mod, make sure to mount it as far towards the back of the VX as possible to minimize interference from that beam

heres what i had to cut off the console

http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/medium/domelight_6.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=17527)

and heres how it fit, you can see the beam with some dynamat on it up there

http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/medium/dome_light_004.jpg (http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=17526)

i also ended up shaving down the top of the console a bit too, to eliminate any touching of the roof

here is one for sale on e-bay

oh for anyone installing it, there are 3 wires that run up the passenger side pillar windshield pillar. on my 01 they were black, red/silver and red/green, red/silver was constant power, black was ground. i assume that red/green is switched power for when a door is open, so you can use either for the dome lights, just make sure if you dont have an 01 to check and see where the wires go. i removed the grab handle and the visor on the passenger side to get easier access to see where the wires went. two went straight across the front of the windshield, the other went towards the dome light, was pretty easy to figure out what was what

how do you have it held in place?

it just clips in place on the headliner, no screws necessary, on the drivers side there are two plastic tabs, then on the passenger side theres a metal spring clip, i think i may take it back out and wrap metal spacers around the headliner to make it even a more snug fit, but for now it looks very good and factory

Here's where I keep my sunglasses. This has been one of the best mods I have done. I have used that little maglite a gagillion times.

Better start thinkin 'bout replacing those batteries soon. They're only rated for gagillion.138 uses.

OK this is some weird juju, I just came inside from the garage fiddlin' around figgerin' out how best to mount my mini-mag to my ashtray front....came in, went to the home page, see your photo....weird, very weird JAMAS....although I was thinkin' velcro, but I'd prefer your clips...what clips did you use there? Are they mini-mag specific? Think I saw something like those in a 2-pak on Amazon, but didn't want to drill any holes.

Sorry for the thread-jack.....

Great minds think alike, I guess.

yeah, those are clips made for the mini-maglite. They were probably purchased about 10-20 years ago (they were my Dad's) so I don't know where to purchase them again. I would DEFINITELY recommend the clips vs. the Velcro though.

I am sure you are aware, but the ashtray is removable by sliding it out and pressing down on the silver flat piece inside the ashtray, then sliding the ashtray the rest of the way out.

Good Luck!!!

Kat before you put it there, have you looked into how it fits on the underside of the center console lid?

Eric that's brilliant!! And the stereo remote too! Just tried it, both fit!!!
Done! Thanks for ideas...as I've proven over and over, I obviously have no creativity in this arena, so thanks!

So not to threadjack...just since you have more headliner exp than I. I am looking to mount my rear view mirror up higher, and preferably in the beginning of the headliner. I moved mine up from the stock position but the sun visors hit it everytime you pull them down. Not an issue for me but thats is not the case for my wife. Do you think it is feasible to somehow with magnets attach one to the base of the mirror and the other to the roof under the headliner?

etlsport

j, you could do that, the beam that i was talking about having to work around goes all the way to the base of the windshield though, and there is a space above it

i bet you could find a clip or a clamp of some kind to clip to the front edge of that, just remove your visors and the mounts for them and pull the front edge of the headliner down, you will see what im talking about, you may even be able to screw into that beam with 1-2 small screws (But it is structural, so id be a little weary of it, but hey, i considered cutting mine for a minute, so who knows

if you are loooking for a project, take a look at ldubs gallery, the overhead console he has extends all the way to the front between the mirrors, id bet you could find a mirror from a honda or something that normally mounts to the roof and find a way to hang it from that console

You could even use some old chevy/ford mirrors from a resto catalog, they mounted to the roof as well
