Hello all, picking up my VX next week. I've just bought the "Brown" one as mentioned in one of the other posts.
I live in Birmingham, and I'm looking for a specialist nearby to use, any of you guys know of anyone.
Cheers
Ripster

Hi there!

there aren't really any "specialists" out there - Greasemonkey seems to be the closest there is but he's in Bury St Edmonds so that's a bit of a trek.

I use a variety of friendly local spannermen (not all of whom are professionals, but that I trust) or do the work myself.

Your best bet is to join a local 4x4 forum and work out which members aren't Land-Rover junkies or Paj snobs and are pretty handy and have a word with them about who they recommend. Given the bodging that's been done to mine I the past I'd avoid "the bloke down the corner".

Also, make sure you get a copy of the Workshop Manual on CD (you could PM me your name and address and I'll post you one) as this helps because you can say "i'd like this done and here's a printout that should help". The manual's for a US market one though so there's a little imagination needed.

I hope this helps,

Alan

Congrats and welcome!!!!

I'd follow the advice above, i sent mine to Nene Overland recently for a full survice if that helps. They are in Peterborough.

The parts for the VX match up with a 3.2 SWB Trooper (UBS25 chassis) and the 3.2 Frontera B. They have the same engine, drive train etc

Hope to see you at some meets soon! And get some pictures up of the new toy :D

Hi Ripster, glad you found the forum, you'll find it of great help whilst you own the VX. I spoke to the seller of your Brown VX and I suspect you've got a bargain. I live in Manchester but my in-laws are in Birmingham and often visit so a meet and a chat in the future is certainly possible. I've kept my eye on the VX market for about 30 months and conclude there are about 35 VXs in the UK (many of the owners are members of this forum) but new ones (to me) occasionally appear such as your Brownie.

Greasemonkeys garage is always open - in reality its better to get it serviced and maintained by a garage that knows the vehicle -
pretty sure nene overland put the wrong oil in the engine ? and they put standard multigrade in the rear diff with no LSD additive in Crotchrockets VX
cheers

Hello All.
Thanks for the welcome.
Alan, thanks for the CD, I'll PM you in a bit. Kirk if your heading my way, or any of you guys drop me a line and we'll hook up.
"Brownie" now in my custody, and I must say my reservation about the colour were totally unfounded, its look is really cool. Condition for a 98mdl car, pretty good, only a few small scratches that will polish out, the only real bodywork issue is on the bonnet insert, (here's were I need your advise chaps..) its painted with a plastic feeling material thats reacted somehow causing bubbles on the front edge of the bonnet. Any suggestions on renovating the body cladding, mines looking a bit faded.
More immediately however need to get a new passenger side door mirror @ some point its been hit and glued back together and the mirror replaced with some stuff from hall of mirrors, are the mirrors specific to the VX.....
Thanks again for the welcome Rip.

See this thread for sure about cladding:

PM "VX Crazy" and see if she still has the mirror (for us it would be the driver's side mirror) from her wrecked VX she has in her garage.

Also, there's several sellers on ebay parting out VXs, search for a thread where I posted all their seller names and email each one. (Let me know if you can't find it).
