I have just returned from the transmission mechanic and i think i am about to cry and throw my hands up and just walk away….

The part shown is making a "I am about to go noise". The mechanic thought he would be able to get the part in but it turns out that he cannot.

My thoughts are this.

1: is it cheaper to ship in the part from US and pay to have the case removed again, split, repaired and then put back in. I am already in for a bill that is going to make my partner very unhappy.

or

2: is it going to be move efficient and maybe a tad more expensive to ship a whole case over and put it in myself.

i can put a whole transfer case in myself with no worries but splitting and replacing the guts is beyond my tools and my experience.

If i do ship one in from the states is it going to fit...does the JDM have the exact same transfer case as the US version...i know that the US version is in TOD mode all the time so are the guts the same?

Does anyone have a model number for the transfer case? i might be able to get one out of a jackaroo (trooper) wreck but will it be in a good condition....

Please help me as I am at lost at what to do.

I either hit the motherlode or it's too good to be true, but here's a list of 30 used Vehicross transfer cases. There's some pretty low mileage ones too. I think this is the place Deermagnet posted a while back.
I can start calling them tomorrow to see if they really have them and how they handle shipping.
Of course we gotta confirm if the U.S. spec fits your JDM first.

I am pretty sure its the 4l30-e. The mechanic is just around the corner from my work so in about an hour i will print out the photos and take them around and compare wire harness etc to mine.

is that one for sale?

I used a 85003 zip code which i believe a the Arizona zip code ( i had to do this as the link you sent has timed out) there are a lot there!

I am going to use the above photos and do a comparison today. will post my findings.

Edit: back from the shop. well i think its the same, now weather the workings are or not is a different story...

He was fitting it back in as i arrived so i could not get a clear view of the plate that is next to the shifter shown in the above photo but the wiring harness looks the same. It has a borg warner patent plate on it, with a US patent number....

If you're mechanical enough to install a transfer case, then this is probably totally obvious--but I had a similar problem. My transfer case was making a howling noise at all times and the mechaninc at the dealership said it would go any day. Also, my TOD lights were flashing around like crazy. The problem was solved by just buying new tires. The TOD system needs all the tires to have pretty close to the exact same diameter, so having ones on the front that are a different brand or are more worn can cause transfer case noises.
