After spending the last month lurking around here and searching, I think I have found my new VX! Its a 1999 but in decent condition. As with every vehicle I own, (my Suzuki Samurai for one) I just cant help messin with it. :p

I think I am going to take the plunge and go with the I4x Pro Elite Kit, why you ask. Because I can. lol Also I am very seriously thinking about running 33x12.5 TSL Rads. The difference between the 10.5" and 12.5" is actually only 1.4". That and I have a set on my Zuk that I want to swap out with boggers. lol As for performance, for now just intake but I would like to see about getting some headers for it. Oh one quick question, has anyone built a full exo-cage for these things yet? I am starting one for my Zuk and was thinking about fabbing bumpers, sliders, and maybe a cage. At the very lest a b-hoop with a small cage in the front. This rig is going to be a DD for a while until I decided to do something stupid and make it a trailer queen. lol

Well its almost 3am and I need to be up at the crack of noon, so I will catch ya on the flip side. (and yes I did have bump stops that kept most of the 35's off the sheet metal) :bwgy:

Oh, and heres my Zuki, this is pre-yj's and 33 tsl rads :bgwb:

I have only seen a few people here do much metal work. I see mostly small spring lifts, spacers, ect ect but not much fabrication. Us Zuk guys are notoriously cheap bastards and do most of our own work. I am not expecting to make this into a buggy, but more of a Mad Max-ish vehicle. I set a budget for it and I really dont want to go over it, so I may have to re-think the lift. Maybe some more lurking is needed before I go crazy and order the wrong stuff, again.....

BTW How many people have actually ordered from RRO and actually received there items?

RRO doesen't typically have springs in stock, usually takes a LONG time to get your order.

Matt @ Indy4X is the go to guy for me...

This will answer many of your questions...

Wow. Are you really pushing all that rubber around with 81 cubic inches of raw power???

I had a Sammi for years & never even considered running that much rubber.

BTW, you're only gonna be able to get about 3" of lift but that is enough to run 33x12.50. You'll have to trim the cladding on the front.

Also, be prepared to replace the CV boots on a regular basis after you lift. Use the search function on CV boots to read all about it. Also search on diff drop for more reading.

Nope I have a 1.6 8v of pure raw squirrel power. :winko: I had a very high performance motor built. It has about 12:1 compression and revs up to about 10k RPM's. I took the 4.9:1 t-case out for a stocker but have left the 5.38's in the diffs for around town. She drives 70mph with no problems, granted she screams like a banshee with those gears. When I had everything still stock but the motor, I was cruising between Cali and WA up through the pass at over 90mph. The little thing really dose fly.

About the CV's that what I would expect. I was looking at the L4x cv boot last night. I might as well order a couple until I figure out a solid axle. I am thinking now maybe just a simpler lift and start looking at a solid front axle with a 3 or 4 link on both ends, but that is then starting to get away from the gloried grocery getter idea I had at first.

EDIT:

This is the VX I am about to buy :jump:

Nice VX ... but the stripe's gotta go.

My Sammi kept the 1.3L for it's entire life. It was my DD logging in about 100 miles per day. It had over 200K on the ODO when I got rid of it.

If I cant, would it be possible that I take my Zuk? If I get off my arse and replace the head gasket and fix a couple of other minor things she would be ready to go ;)

those are 'mostly' stock housings with some custom 4340 Chrome moly shafts. Really I just bought the shafts since they have a life time warranty and had them cryo treated. I still dont beat them too much, I just HATE repairing them. lol I think thats my fat lazy side coming out.

Polie,
Do your homework on the VX if it's the one @ http://www.bonhamchrysler.com/
I'm in Texas but opted to buy one on East Coast that had a clearer history. I tried to send you the CarFax link but it expired...I ran one on this particular prospect. As I recall, there was a sizeable difference in the history mileage and what the odometer actually shows now. Here is what the salesman wrote me about it:

There is a big difference on the vehicle mileage and the carfax mileage. About a 100,000 mile difference.

It sounds like you are mechanically inclined....just be careful. Either way, I'd drive a helluva deal on this rig. It's been for sale with them for about a year now.

I am going to have to lay off buying a VX for a while. I was just in a wreck and will be out of work for a while and until insurance starts to kick in I will be iving off savings.

I was hit on my bike while going to work and it re-cracked some ribs and tweaked my back. I dont know if I will be doing much of anything soon :(

Dude, sorry to hear that your injured.... Listen closely to Fe's advice on that mileage discrepency. I would tell that dealer to spit you out a carfax on that thing 1st.

Well when the time comes to buy, I think I would rather buy from a community member, even if its a little more $$. I would rather support the community and friends vs Joe Pole Smoker Used Dealership and Emporium. lol

Hey Polie sorry to hear ya got banged up, but at least you're still kickin. Take you're time and recover. You'll find the right VX for ya.
