The hunt to buy a place seams to be over, I can’t find anything in my budget :( but the boss has been looking for other places to rent so looks like were moving, I could do with a tow hitch for the VX. Been searching for Trooper ones (should fit right????) but can see the one that you guys have with the box section removable hitch?? All I can find are weak looking swan neck ones or fixed ones. I’d also like one with a military look or one I can attach a military receive too?

Anyone got any ideas??

Have a chat with these guys James.... http://www.towbarexpress.co.uk/?gclid=COu7-8jg4p0CFVVu4wodgHflNA

They will come to you and I'm sure they can fit somethng. You May struggle to get the military type if you want it easily removeable and swappable with a ball, but I'm sure they will tellyou.

Have a look at the Westfalia or Witter removeable bars. They are very good and the support bar is usually hidden away.

Cheers

Nick

Whats this miltary style one ? do you mean a pintle hook?

I just got my recovery hooks fitted (finaly). for the back one just have a slid in piece which slides into my Tone style rear hitch.

So Crotch i guess if you got one like that. then you could do basicaly the same and thats you for a rear recovery hook.

Instead of using the stock hook.

Yeap also called a pintle hook i think.

I got offered one over here when i was at the 4x4 shop instead of just the hook that slides in the hitch.

The one i got offered over has has a towbar under the top piece
From what i remember the Pintle is rated at 5 ton and the towball is 3.5ton

I was thinking of going this idea but i already have a slide in a towbar so just ended up going with a slide in pic

Got all my recovery work done on friday.
Heres a sneak peak pic of the back.

Tho ill start another thread later of some of the mods ive done lately :D
Before the hitch was put on. The rear chassis member has reinforced has its hallow in its stock state which isnt really strong enough to be towed off now it is :D

When I got my VX about 2 years ago I also need a tow hitch. The Trooper ones didn't seem to quite fit easily. So... I went for a Kurt imported hitch which fits like a dream- next time I'd take off the cladding first! Got mine through Peter Cooper American Car Spares who seems to have good US contacts + an engineering background- don't know if he's still trading though. I bolted a UK size towball to an old Cherokee removable hitch but any competent trailer company should be able to make up the right section. Did buy a decent lock for it.

Hpoe this will help.

Mine's a Witter one, but it has an extra plate to attach the middle to the centre of the rear cross-member. As with many mods done to my cars by DPOs* its pretty crud, but in this case it does seem to work.

Dunno if that helps.

Alan
