James, you fat git! :bgwo:

I think you read the chart wrong mate...

You are Obese, not clinically obese :bwgy:

Me? I'm just inside the Obese section too at 6'2" and 105kg.

Maybe we should start the Obese Vx Owners Club UK? :bgwo:

I think this chart might be of help to us on this side of the pond if the weight was in pounds and not stones or kilos. :)
Peace.

Tom,

It lists height in meters and in feet (opposite axis). It also lists weight in lbs and kg (opposite axis).

I hate those things. I know I'm carrying a few extra lbs right now but I don't think I'm obese. If they want me to be anorexic (sp?), they can shove that chart where the sun don't shine.

BTW, I'm 5'8" @ 200 lbs.

Tom,
One side of the weight is in Kilograms and the other is in Stones.

Tom I just type in google 150lb to KG and it does the conversion on the fly for you.

Kilograms and stones, What does a stone weigh?
My BMI is around 19. I pretty much weigh what I weighed in high school!

TDT, click on the link.. the chart there is better for us non metrics :)

That's crap! I'm 6'03"/195lbs and it says I'm over weight. Those that have seen me in person, Am I over weight? Haa! Me thinks it's just a ploy to try and make the perfect human specimen. Everybody should look like the ripped, cut, over boobed twigs on TV.

Those charts are worth about as much as the paper they are written on...that ones not even on paper so you get the point. They do not take into account bone density, muscle mass, water percentage, etc.
By the way, it has me in the overweight catagory...I am 5'7 and 156 lbs.
Lets see, this week I will have biked 250 miles, ran 65 miles and swam 10,000 yards....wonder what it takes to be in the normal range other than forcing yourself to throw up after every meal?

And Moncha, you were looking a little plump in Moab!:bwgy:
Just kidding of course!

Off to the pool I go...gotta get skinny!

If you read the fine print it was originally designed to measure the bmi of sedentary people. So if you are muscular and an athlete it doesn't work.

I think everyone is missing the point. The human body functions best at a certain weight regarding to height. Remember that is the inside of your body too.

Yeah, Billy I bet you will not find another person 5'7 156 lbs. that run/ride what you do. You're one in a million. What you will find are the other 999,999 5'7 156 lb people that are over weight and not in very good shape.

So does this mean the chart is useless. No, it means maybe one should look at one height/weight and see if you are the one in million or one of the 999,999.

Really one doesn't need a chart. Take your shirt off and be honest with yourself.:)

Peace.

triathelete, biked 250 miles, ran 65 miles, and swam 10,000 yards.

handeeman biked from one side of his garage to the other.(didn't ride I pushed the bike-tougher than riding), then I drove almost 250 miles, then I back-stroked my floating lawn-chair across my pool to reach my cooler ! some of us work harder than others to stay in shape.

Yes, I am an oddity...but it doesn't take much to get in reasonable shape. 30 minutes a day...most people spend more than that (a lot more) on the internet, watching TV or playing video games.

Sorry Mate, that was poorly worded...:mbrasd:

It should'v read, with swiss cheese, on a Hoagie bun.

those charts don't work for anyone who has any muscle at all. I am 5'8" and workout 4-5 days/week and weight around 155 with a body fat 11% and they say I am overweight...? I was at 175 in Nov of last year but doing well getting back into shape, working hard and eating right.

I think the chart I last looked at said my healthy weight was like 144-153 lbs. Again, maybe with NO muscle but that wouldn't be healthy either.

Just eat healthy foods most of the time, and get regular exercise - if you feel good and are in good health, you are at a good weight.

Yes it was kinda bummer to me when I went to try and up my life insurance and they basically told me sorry mr tubby none for you. I was like tubby really? Bah no way not me, maybe I shouldnt have installed one of those silly mirrors in the bathroom at the casa.

Honestly tho I think there is a big problem with bmi itself. Yes most people in my office I could run circles... sorry circle around before I have to stop take a breath , eat a sandwich, take my union break, then go another lap around them. Yes I am what you would say on the larger side but its beause I like to eat and well all of what billy said, Um internet... tv... video games.. Sorry back to point. I think they really need to do away with the bmi because people are built different and there fitness level is different, Look at atheletes period. I read in a mens health (Yes I know there is a joke there so laugh now.....) Ok so anyways was reading a mens health and a guy with a bear gut was fit as can be. Ran marathons, bike did the whole 9 yards. But he had a beer gut because of his genetics. Nothing he could do about it tried everything to lose it ate health yet bmi too high. No I am not speaking genetics for myself but I do eat alot of genetically ehanced food lol. Peopls idea of fat is crazy. I say I will be too fat when I cant fit in the vx lol :D

RUN, FATBOY, RUN!!! :smilewink Clinically obese, bah. During my prime I was considered heavy: 5' 11" 172lbs 7% body fat (all that elk and ram meat)
Now that I quit working out I am 165lbs with 10% body fat.
Now I guess I am at my ideal weight... but I don't get called beefcake anymore. Bosslady told me I don't look to be as heavy as 165 lbs... I told her, "You'd have to see me naked to understand." HA!

I tried to gain weight but it is tough! Again, at my prime, I lost weight over Christmas vacation because I didn't work out for 7 days! Who loses weight over Christmas vacation?! Never got that weight (muscle) back either. I consider my ideal weight to be 180; maybe I'll get there when I am 50...

Next time someone ask how much I weigh, I'm gonna say 12 1/2 stones and try to keep a straight face. Did anyone else notice; the guy that started the "Clinically Obese" thread also started the "I love beer" thread. I wonder is there a correlation ? Reminds me of the little boy wondering around Wal-Mart crying, the manager finds him and ask why ya crying ? the little boy replies "I've lost my dad", the manager ask what's he like? the little boy replies "Beer and women".
