with a little dremel work the useless compartment worked out really well for the compass. it looks like it belongs stock.

calibration is going to take a little time, I got it close but I think I'll wait until my next excursion to dial it in just right.

Hmmm, did you know that all new GPS units have a built in compass....:bgwb:

Welcome to the addiction.

That looks a great little mod. I've wanted to made a similar mod to the compartment but I failed to pop it out of the dash (which just flexes if I just pull) is the a knack to removing it?

I popped mine out by mistake, try pulling toward the steering wheel while your pulling out on it.

I want GPS with a compass too! but this will still be useful when the satellites go offline or otherwise become unavailable to the public ...I'm half joking but we take a lot for granted with technology.

Nice work! Did you use the Brunton #58CE Illuminated model, and if so, what did you power it from?

its is and I'm actually finishing the install now, I hooked it in behind the fuses with the cig lighter but I really only want it on with my dash lights... any ideas?

if you remove the ash tray, there is a light above it that only lights up with the headlights, try tapping that wire... very nice install though!

I don't think that is entirely true. I think there is also a limit switch that it only lights up when the ash tray is open. I took my ashtray out and mounted my scan gage there. I had to disconnect the bulb cause it was always on.
